Book Rec thread. I wanna post some of my 5 stars on here too so I really like remember them. First up Where Wolves Don't Die by Anton Treuer. A native kid gets in a fight with a kid at school and the next day the other kid's house catches fire.
His dad sends him to the Rez to stay with grandparents.
Fuck roommate says i need to do the whole driveway, but I only did the walks. And I felt sick after doing just the walks. Is it pathetic to pay some to do the drive? I might fight through it but I still feel weak from not being able to keep anything in me.

Did some work and shoveled snow. Now I need to do more work, but I'm so sleepy. Time off is honestly worse for my productivity because I get used to doing nothing and then get cranky when I have to start doing things again.

Welp I am the one person to lose weight over the holidays because of what I assume was eating something off. It could have been waaaay worse though so i am thankful I was still functional and could semi spend time with folks. I think I am on the mend so yay!

Did something to destroy my tummy the day before Thanksgiving and have not been right since right before dinner yesterday. Ruined the holiday a bit. Although the screaming that went on during the after dinner game would have gotten on my last nerve even if I was well so maybe best I was shut up.

Yeeeep. Profs and staff use it almost as much. Its bad.
Look, LLM use in academia isn't just students. You need to be speaking clearly with your collaborators about your writing standards from the beginning. Make people say out loud that they don't write their own articles anymore.

We are at the screaming Defying Gravity stage of tonight. Oof.
November 27, 2025 at 8:46 PM
Welp turns out football with family is a big no thanks for me. All the screaming is wearing on me.
November 27, 2025 at 7:17 PM
Ahaha so true!
Happy Thanksgiving! Happy Thursday! Happy day before "escape from Illinois before they get buried in snow."
November 27, 2025 at 2:31 PM
Happy gross holiday that I still use as an excuse to see family and gorge myself on food.

Sorry to my uncles friends. I showed him how go copy links to reels on fb and he is going to be spamming them with fb links forever. Didnt think about how annoying that would be until after I taught him lmao.

My uncle pretends to be a jerk, but secretly cares...he cooked me breakfast, showed off his pineapple corer, and turned off fox news when I walked into the room. I am watching westerns and cross stitching without having to worry about a cat ingesting anything.

I've been banned from talking about politics because I tried to say the shutdown ending means insurance costs will go up. Trump has some magic plan to save everyone according to one aunt and the rest say we should just all get along at all times and not speak of it because it doesnt effect us. Lol k

Promised myself I would empty and scrub the litter box before leaving, but I woke up at 3am foe unknown reasons and couldnt fall back asleep so all I want to do is curl up in my bed. I also need to go to CVS but its raining...

My aunt told me to bring drinks if I want anything and I didn't think to pick up a cute non alcoholic thing. Maybe I can run to the food coop later today and et some juice! And share with the few other non drinkers.
I do not drink because I have almost no tolerance for it anymore (one margarita is too much).

If you are hosting a party, I recommend also stocking:
-fancy ginger beer
-coconut water
-premium juices like lychee and guava
-apple cider with cinnamon
-Italian sodas
-sparkling water

Lots of options!

Just a reminder that this cat needs to live in someone else's house! She's probably fine with boy cats or dogs, she just doesn't like other girl cats. I'll drive her as far as OK or AR! Or like for sure anywhere in the Texas triangle!

Hmm trying to balance how much detail to put in this endnote libguide and how much to say just look at their own documentation. Some of it is only on video format though and I know some folks refer it written out with screen shots. Hmm

Yeah our library has a tension between faculty who want browsing and students who want more study space. The only reason the students havent won is the uni fakes being poor when we ask for money to remodel or build a better repository lol. And well after this year funding might actually be limited.
The one thing I really miss about the 'older world' is browsing library stacks, and card catalogues. However much I appreciate databases and retrieving what I want in moments, the serendipity of 'the book next to the one I wanted' and 'the article in the same issue' cannot be replicated. #Libraries

Yeah it is very area specific. As someone who doesnt drive in a Michigan city with decent transit that does not connect a lot to nearby counties I just dont see family anymore because they are beyond public transit reach. It also takes over twice as long on transit as by Lyft a lot of the time.
I am super-pro-public transit, and use it way more than the average American, but I live near a light rail station with very, very stable and predictable scheduling, and even then I would not use it for many things I use a car for because the cost of transit is time.
i wonder how much of Americans' views on driving vs. transit would change if they had to pay for gas/insurance/etc every time they turned on the engine

"i'm not paying $5 to take the train to work twice a day when i can just drive" is a genuine opinion held by so many people

People have a million excuses for pirating books, and I'm so tired of all of them. If you're in the US, you have access to most books through a library, SOMEHOW. If you're outside the US, it's trickier, but there are so many other books to read! Don't pirate when many authors are barely scraping by.
Do not steal books, I beg. Borrow from a library. Libraries lend e-books!
