rich dudes got freakier after butlers fell out of fashion, like say what you will about having domestic servants but clearly it was some sort of moderating force on old rich dudes having a fancy man follow you around saying shit like "oh dear sir, that wouldn't be very becoming"

This is likely going to be my album of the year. Lost count of how many times I had it on the turntable. Beautiful work and I probably would have missed out on it if it wasn’t for the people I follow on here

Usually I find Jazz-with-an-orchestra-records to be almost unlistenable. This record from 1958 is a welcome exception (‘91, Japanese reissue). Beautifully laidback and only almost kitschy.* Perfect for days which are both dark and rainy.

*no guarantees, might be very kitschy

Accidentally bought two records today, as “I’ll just have a look“ never really works, doesn’t it? No regrets.

Currently listening to one of my favourite albums of the past 10 years. I doubt that I’ll ever get to own it in any physical format, though you can always dream! standingonthecorner.bandcamp.com/album/standi...

Every week this advert seems to be in The New Yorker. Every week (without fail) it makes me laugh. The most New Yorker advert in the New Yorker.

- I've tried nothing to improve my life and crime is the only thing left
What are your top 5 movie genres? Mine are:

Existential Soviet Cinema
French hipsters play at acting and movies

I like how full text search of every book and human thought ever was a SOLVED PROBLEM in 2001, and now dicks at search engines and my own phone – a piece of silicon faster to respond than God was ever imagined in scripture – prevent it from working, _as a retroactive infantilizing design choice_.

While I am mostly happy with the time I was born I envy previous generations for their variety of letter endings. Today we may either use ”kind“ or “warmest regards” – God forbid someone uses “admiringly” or anything that consists of more than 2 words at the end of their email.
Watching Murders In the Rue Morgue (Robert Florey, 1932) and marvelling at the cute little ape letterhead on the writing paper of Dr. Mirakle (Bela Lugosi), Dr. Mirakle who is abducting women and injecting them with ape blood in order to create a mate for his murderous sideshow ape. Pre Code, yes.

More Jeff Parker today! I’m so glad that I was able to see Jeff Parker & The New Breed in Bergen, Norway in early 2020 before the pandemic. Very happy to have this record signed!

Excellent essay here on the slow strangling of mass literary culture in the West - most clearly in the US, but it's obviously happening here too

Earl Sweatshirt - Live Laugh Love
This is definitely one of my favourite records of the year and I only can recommend watching the music video for ’CRISCO’ because it is one of the best things I’ve seen on YouTube in a long time.
