I don't think the average person has any idea how many of these unpaid local commissions there are. Since there are a million and they're unpaid, the reality is that a bunch of local cranks with too much time on their hands are the only ones that want to do them so they end up appointed to them.

I truly do not how these agreements law firms are coming to with the Trump administration are ethical under our rules. Or how many of the actions of the administration's lawyers lately such as supporting their client ignoring court orders are ethical under our rules.

It's not even just pro-bono cases! You're literally allowed to represent or not represent whoever you want, including for money! I'm going insane that everyone is giving credence to this idea that lawyers are supposed to represent everyone when there is no legal support for that whatsoever!
There's an essay to be written about Trump's weaponization of the legal profession's norms -- including the idea that legal representation is morally neutral, which Trump is rendering as "pro bono cases cannot reflect lawyers' moral views"

I literally don't even understand the argument being made about Paul Weiss and how they need to take clients of all political positions, no they don't! Nowhere in law or ethical rules do lawyers have that obligation!

Yes this is better articulating what I was saying earlier. I don't like the "He's a horrible person who deserves this but we have to stop them from coming for everyone else afterwords who doesn't deserve this" spin that so many people who are allegedly on our side have put on this.
Whilst all of this is true, I always blanch a bit when I hear this, or the "first they came for" poem.
