Also not a big non-fiction reader, but finished this in October and it was eye-opening. It was recommended by someone when I commented that I felt overwhelmed, overworked, and overstressed. #bookvember

J.R.R. Tolkien
Terry Pratchett
Brandon Sanderson
Robin Hobb

I mean, I could add others (and on another day I might substitute them for one of these), but these are the authors I re-read consistently and envy the folks who are picking them up for the first time. #bookvember

Tried to read this book three times. Never finished it. I could not bring myself to care about the characters for some reason. To me, they all felt like cardboard cutouts of people.

I read this book in one sitting - absolutely devoured it. This is the only book I've ever read that caused an involuntary reaction that included swear words. #bookvember

I had surgery in 1995. When I was just waking up from anesthesia, I had a long, hilarious conversation with Bugs Bunny about my mother. I still feel like he was my friend and was there to make sure I recovered okay.
The hatred towards furries shows me someone's level of degeneracy because we ALL have at least one anthropomorphic two-legged animal character that we like. Bluey is literally a show about anthro two-legged dogs and sells millions of dollars

It was a crazy busy in the bookshop today. I took almost four times what I'd expect to take on a normal Weds. I guess the ramp-up to Christmas has started, which is good news. Independent bookshops make around a third of their yearly income over the seasonal period, so remember to shop local!

1. Don't panic. They expect to see turkey and maybe a ham or whatever. It isn't going to freak them out or they wouldn't have come.

2. Do offer alcohol, if yours is a drinking house.

You cannot replace a singularly awful figure like Trump, there is no one like him, which is why replacing his awfulness will be a team effort, so after Trump, The New York Jets will run the country.

I love the point @marisakabas.bsky.social makes about jumping to the head of the line by doing sensational “journalism” with questionable ethics. This has been a thing in sports media for a long time, as management thinks hiring influencers is the key to getting any more clicks.
Moral rot in elite journalism is killing the whole field
The Nuzzi/RFK Jr. mess and the revelation of Esptein's journo pals lay bare a profound moral absence at the heart of our free press.

#bookvember. lol. As an elder X Gen, uh, my reading was completely unsupervised. When I got bored with children’s books, I moved right into adult fiction without any stops in Teen or YA. I have childhood scars; they are not from my reading. 😉

#Bookvember - my sister and I were obsessed with horses. We had all kinds of books with horses, but we had a large picture book about the Lipizzaner Stallions that I read to rags (and that I can't remember the name of). The thrill of my life was getting to see these amazing horses perform

I have read Roald Dahl as a child and as an adult. I remember as a child, I felt like the author understood me. As an adult, I noticed that he tells a damn good story. I did especially like James and the Giant Peach.

The literal point of health insurance was pooling resources so that lower paid employees could afford care without negotiating individually (see Baylor University prepaid hospital plan for local teachers in like 1926 or '28)
This GOP notion that people are dying to have one on one negotiations with their health insurance companies is so tone deaf it sounds like a democratic proposal
