In fact, it is offensively ridiculous to think that any but a handful of people disappeared by ICE will be able to file habeas corpus, because it relies on them having informed families with connections to available knowledgeable lawyers with time and resources to act instantly.

Also, the whole “the administration doesn’t have to adhere to lower court rulings that they don’t like, only Supreme Court rulings have full legal validity,” mindset is really concerning to me. Especially coming from a compliant news outlet.
this whole ever-shifting target of "when will be in crisis" is so frustrating. we have been in a constitutional crisis for 25 years, often with the enthusiastic support of new york times reporters. we are now in the final collapse that is inevitable after 25 years of unaddressed crisis
