Hey Colorado residents, particularly people in Fort Collins, but also those who are somewhat near: my sister and brother in law are running a study on an easy, portable method to help maintain indoor air quality during adverse outside events (like smoke or pollution).

I had a talk with someone earlier who very proudly informed me that they read only nonfiction. When I inquired why (dear God why), they simply said "I like my reading to teach me about the world." I laughed.

All the facts in all the books in all the world cannot teach you any of what fiction does.

If you are zeroing out graduate education funding and cutting undergraduate education funding by 71%, this isn’t about subject matter or “woke” or whatever other excuse is being used - this is a systematic attack on science education in the US. This should not be a partisan issue.
NSF Physics was cut by 85%, basically wiping out most of its capacity for supporting research.

NSF Astronomy was cut by 53%

Undergrad education was cut by 71% and research on learning by 79%

Graduate education was cut by 100% to ZERO.

FYI to media outlets, you're misleading your readers if you repeat this at face value.

There's no lawful way for him to redirect these grants elsewhere. It's a lie to distract from how the GOP budget guts educational funding, including Pell Grants at trade schools.

A researcher calculates that, without increased production, AI will consume up to 82 terrawatt-hours of electricity this year—around the same as the annual electricity consumption of Switzerland.

The stick isn't working. That's what refusing paid maternity leave, childcare subsidies and post partum workplace protections was supposed to do. It's an explicitly white supremacist argument, but even if we could take the racism out of it (we can't) the reality is that globally women are fed up.
Thing is--carrots won't work. If they really want White women to have more babies, the best option is sticks. Because even with childcare, paid leave, and tax credits, if women also have access to education, professional jobs, and other opportunities, there's a limit to how many kids they'll want.
