On this first night of Hanukkah I’m thinking about Ahmed al Ahmed, the brave Lebanese-Australian who reminds us that despite all the terrible horror—in Bondi today, in Gaza, in Ukraine, in Darfur…—that there is still decency and goodness in this world.

Thank you Ahmed.

This is the flip side of "gun freedom." One person's right to walk around with guns is everyone else's need for constant vigilence. Doesn't seem freedom maximizing to me.
A friend of mine who teaches at Brown is still locked in his office (as of an hour ago at least). This automated text is periodically being sent to students and faculty:

The European Union has triggered Article 122 to indefinitely immobilise the assets of the Russian Central Bank, worth a whopping €210 billion.

I explain what just happened and why this is such a big deal for Europeans.

Ford government extends Ontario legislature’s Christmas break until late March

Just unreal. Ford has stopped even pretending to run a government. It's all about hiding from the corruption.

Last call for Ontario's opposition parties to get their acts together. #onpoli

From a lay person with zero trade expertise, what happens if 🇨🇦potash producers ⬆️ potash price to 🇺🇸? +Tariffs=⬆️$ to farmers. They need it & c10-15 yrs b4 🇺🇸 industry running. Same with oil from Alberta. Maybe trade agreements prevent it,🇺🇸 retaliates with higher tariffs on lumber, steel, aluminum etc.

Good comments too
Has any prime minister ever gotten less political value out of a giant investment than Justin Trudeau got from TMX? Obviously environmental groups/voters were never going to like it, and most everyone else just pretends it never happened because it complicates the narrative.

Not the same but I often idlely wonder how many millions (billions) sit unused on forgotten or I’ll-get-to-it gift cards.
Apparently the Ford government is removing the law that prevented Air Miles from expiring. A popular and sensible law, removed to accommodate a business at the expense of regular people.
