This is where we are now: An elementary school at Fort Campbell has removed all books from its library that so much as *allude* to slavery or the civil rights movement.

The wholesale erasure of history in real time.

WIC. They are pausing WIC.

That's the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children. Last time I checked (a while ago), every dollar spent on WIC produced over a dollar in savings *in the same fiscal year.* For most people, though, feeding infants and mothers is enough.
Broader agreement that it to applies to discretionary spending payments (Head Start, WIC, etc).

If anything possesses you to write something like "trans people are today what Jews were to the Nazis," please stop posting for a while.

Just stop. I should not have to explain to you why you need to please just talk about what's going on w/o doing... *that.*

Sincerely, an exhausted trans Jew.

What does this mean?

That the medical privacy of trans youth has no protections.

That ideologues in hospitals can play politics with kids personal medical data and there will be no consequences.

That trans Americans are second class citizens.

“Despite possessing Certificates of Indian Blood (CIBs) and state-issued IDs, several individuals have been detained or questioned by ICE agents who do not recognize these documents as valid proof of citizenship,”

They do not recognize the documents. That statement is chilling.

To instrumentalize what my sister is saying below: every time someone says DEI say “you mean civil rights?” Every time someone says they are against woke reply “oh so you’re a segregationist!” Words have meaning! Don’t allow that nonsense to stand.
Only saying once on bsky b/c I know it is not entirely useful, but it is totally exhausting that in 2016 some of us said “they’re Nazis,” some of us screamed “they’re segregationists,” and a whole lot of very serious people now posting about them being Nazis and segregationists gaslight us for years

I always knew my dad as a quiet, kind, gentle man. He was a wonderful father to us growing up. He was our biggest supporter in everything we did. He loves his cats and watching the birds at his feeders. Trump has changed him. He's an angry man with scary ideals. Maybe he always was, but in secret. -

The "he's not gonna listen to her" reactions are missing many points. Lots of other people are also hearing it. Lots of people can see him hearing it, then weigh what she's said with what he'll do. Lots of people can see her refusal to surrender these ancient teachings to the latest face of empire
Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde to Trump: "I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now. There are gay, lesbian, and transgender people in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives ... and the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals"

NEW: People who are detained in jail (before any conviction) are charged 'lodging fees' for each night they are held, saddled with debt they can't afford that drags them down.

A Pennsylvania county just ended that practice & wiped millions in debt:
