Alonso Duralde, the critic who wrote the (well, more than one) book on Christmas movies, talks all about the genre.

TV Fanatic encourages reluctant viewers to give Hallmark movies another try, accurately noting they've changed a lot in last few years

My picks for Hallmark agnostics would be: ROUND AND ROUND, THREE WISE MEN AND A BABY, AN UNEXPECTED CHRISTMAS or THE SANTA CLASS

Still Hate Hallmark Christmas Movies? Oh, You Sweet Winter Child: Try Doing This!
Can't understand the fuss over Hallmark Christmas movies? Never fear! These films have more appeal than ever if you just know where to look.

Selling young men who feel like they’re not masculine enough on the idea that they’ll be basically samurai or cowboys or whatever if they put their money in a speculative financial asset that’ll surely make them rich and tough and desirable sounds like such a classic scam holy cow.
Finally read that WSJ article from last week and this confirms everything I suspected.

If Hot Frosty was your Christmas New Wave gateway drug, check out The Santa Class, from the same writer. Not as star-packed (Hollywood is sleeping on Kimberley Sustad’s comic chops) or hunk-objectifying (Benjamin Ayres is nothing to sneeze at), but romance, humor, holiday magic for days. #filmsky 📽

“Have Yourself A Merriam Little Christmas”

Merriam, a career-oriented lexicographer from the city, returns to her small town for the holidays and meets Webster, a ruggedly handsome librarian, who shows her the true DEFINITION of Christmas.

If you're looking for a holiday watch and missed Amazon's under-promoted CANDY CANE LANE last year, it's a fun family film, with plenty of heart and Christmas feels.

AND ANYONE WHO IS TRICK-OR-TREATING AT FIFTEEN IS PRESUMPTIVELY CLINGING TO THE RITUALS OF CHILDHOOD AT THE MOST DISCOMBOBULATING MOMENT OF THEIR LIVES. THROW CANDY AND KINDNESS AT THEM.
I end up telling this every year but: looking "too old" in many kids' cases means puberty has arrived in the body while the mind is still very much in childhood. It's really hard, it comes with getting catcalled at nine, don't make it harder.
one of my coworkers *refuses* to give candy to trick or treaters who are “too old” or not wearing a costume which … wow. I told her to send those people over to my house because I’m not the Halloween police

Maybe it’s just because I haven’t watched a Hallmark movie since last holiday season, but I found HAUNTED WEDDING sweet and fun with a premise that broke from formula and a better than average supporting cast that earned a few laughs along the way.
