I write about literature at https://wingbackworkshop.com/ and I run with my dog Mabel. I just earned my master's in English, and I'm working on a biography of Ancrene Wisse, a medieval text for women.

Skills for the Future

The proliferation of "cheap intelligence" (more code, text, and images than ever before) means that the skills of discernment, evaluation, judgement, thoughtful planning, and reflection are more crucial now than before.

Learned that an anonymous outside expert on submersibles did an interview with the OceanGate Titan investigation, and they released a transcript, with all the names redacted. The first line of his first answer? "I'm sure you're familiar with my film Titanic."

Whistling when ICE is about to kidnap someone for no reason is incredibly effective. They know what they are doing is wrong and will scatter in the wind when too many witnesses gather.

I've lived in this city for decades, and here's the thing: we are notoriously not big dancers. We'll sing along at the drop of a hat, but dancing? Not so much. That's how war-ravaged we are, we are resorting to dancing in our puffy animal costumes. Trying times. Love us so much.
Streets are still closed off in front of the Portland ICE facility at 8:30pm. Protesters have gathered on a side street. Dance party in progress.

Keeper Joseph remains by her side every step. Raising newborn orphans requires years of hands-on care, providing love and guidance for their eventual wild lives.

I just want to say to the authors who are promoting their books On Here and probably feeling weird about it: every time I see a post with a new book breaking up this hellscape timeline, I am delighted. I want to know that people are making art. Share that shit. 💙📚

All the people I still know in LA laugh and laugh when they hear that "Los Angeles is burning." I made a couple of maps to show just how tiny and localized the protests are. GOPers are working really hard to make an excuse for declaring martial law. People should be very wary of that.
