Nanny duties at Umani: breaking up scuffles, escorting babies, blocking Kapei when he's too rough – and being a climbing frame for Lenny, Zigi, Sulwe and Mwana.

Enkesha is the epitome of patience.

Ready, Steady, Go!

Our Voi herd racing for their midday milk – ears flapping, trunks waving. Hildana, Ashanti, Kanderi, Dabida and Baraka run down in groups, as Keepers only have so many hands.

Sometimes, the only way around is over.

Little Wamata has already overcome a major life hurdle – and no fence will stop her now. With ingenuity, a dash of yoga and lots of determination, she made it to the tasty greens on the other side.

Lima Lima has her own family now, including a son. But she's never forgotten her human family.

When buffalo trapped Keepers at the stockade gate, she emerged from the bushes and trumpeted until they scattered.

When you know Pips' story, moments like this – calm and at ease with Keeper Justus – mean everything.

Rescued from Tsavo after her mother was likely killed by lions, she hid from rescuers for hours. With patience, we earned her trust.

Look who showed up at Voi: 26-year-old Laikipia, now a hugely impressive wild bull.

He's never forgotten home. The orphans rumbled greetings from their beds. He stayed for a drink, then disappeared into the night.

2016: a tiny orphan landed at the Nursery. So began Ambo's story with us.

Ten years on, he's living wild, fraternising with Kenya's biggest bulls. He hails from Amboseli, land of the legendary Craig – who knows, he might become a tusker himself.

Thanks to you, orphaned elephants always have a home.

For the youngest, that means a Keeper beside them through the night – sleeping above them, waking for feeds, offering comfort when they need it most.

The Keepers call Korbessa "our little frog" – she loves sitting with her legs splayed out.

Rescued from a well near Meru in 2023, she arrived tiny but full of character and became Kaluku's undisputed mini-matriarch.

We feared Mwashoti would never walk again after a devastating snare injury. Now he plays referee, greets new arrivals, clears buffaloes for his Keepers, and waits each morning for Murera. The gentlest of giants.

Meet Arthi – our resident alarm clock.

When Keepers were five minutes late opening the gates, this young bull trumpeted until someone got the message. He's also tried sneaking early to the mud bath for milk – and sulked under a tree when it didn't work.

November 2025: An elephant in the Mara, frantically scratching against trees – an arrowhead embedded in his backside. Our SWT/KWS Mara Vet Unit darted him, cleaned the wound, administered antibiotics.

He wasn't the only patient that day. Olubi the lion was next.

We have such exciting news to share! Our first grandkid of 2026 made her debut yesterday — Arruba gave birth to a beautiful baby girl!

More to come, but we couldn’t wait to celebrate this special moment! We rescued Arruba in 2013, when she was just a tiny baby herself: swt.bio/arruba

Not all our Keepers wear green!

Zebra foals imprint on their mothers by recognising their unique patterns of stripes. When we rescued this little foal - orphaned after a lion attack - we dusted off our Zebra coat, so that she didn’t feel alone and knew who to follow.

One tall, one small. One striped, one spotted. Meet Pips and Bombi - Kaluku's more unusual BFFs! These two orphans are an unlikely pair but perfectly suited, united by circumstance, a love of milk, and an intense fondness for their Keeper, Peter.

Today, Lenny was the star of the mud bath, twirling his tiny trunk. A sedate session compared to the other day – when a crocodile darted into the water and Mwana screamed.

Everyone came running. Murera charged. Sonje's team rushed from the hills. The croc didn't stand a chance.

Days old. Swept away in a flash flood. Our Keepers became the only family she'd ever known.

Lemeki graduated to Voi in 2022. Now she's learning to lead as a mini-matriarch – and one day, she'll start a wild family of her own.

You make journeys like hers possible.

Toto's rescue story is extraordinary. A herd of ex-orphans – elephants we'd raised and reintegrated – discovered the hairy newborn calf all alone. Realising he needed help, they delivered the tiny baby into the hands of our Keepers! Discover Toto's story and adopt him: swt.bio/toto

When Korbessa mastered holding her own bottle, our Keepers faced a new problem – getting it back. She wouldn't let go. Eventually, they gave up and distracted her with a dust bath. It worked. Eventually.

Rescued as a newborn, now cheeky, confident, and growing wonderfully.

Christmas came early at Umani. On 15th December, three new graduates arrived from the Nursery: Latika, Kerrio, and Kamili. Mwashoti ran to greet them before the door was even open.

After milk bottles, they jumped into the biggest pool they'd ever seen.

Orphaned by poaching. Raised with round-the-clock care. Now Lima Lima's a wild mother – and quite happy to use us as a daycare service while she enjoys some 'me' time in the forest.

Like mother, like son. Little Lenny is stealing the limelight now.

The elephant equivalent of a stone in your shoe. Except every step was agony – and without treatment, it would have killed him.

An old spear wound had healed, but debris was trapped under the footpad. Our pilot spotted him limping. Our vet team did the rest.

Eyes in the sky. Teams on the ground.

Olomunyak means 'the lucky one' – and he earned it.

He survived lions in the Mara as a tiny calf. Arrived at the Nursery skin and bones. By June, the transformation was remarkable – weight returning, strength rebuilding, curiosity awakening.

Now he's the one comforting others.
