It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans.

For #SuperSeabirdSunday and #Auktober here's a photo of Guillemots at RSPB Bempton Cliffs. If you look closely you can just about see there is an egg being tucked under one adult Guillemot (centre left) and a chick being sheltered by the one with the yellow tag 🥰🥚🐣🐥

If you haven't read this article about how an Alaska Native corporation is supporting ICE's efforts, you should. It's long but comprehensive: alaskapublic.org/news/politic... #akleg
Lucrative ICE detention centers bring money — and anger — to an Alaska Native community
NANA Regional Corp. is supposed to uphold Iñupiat values. Some shareholders say its role in Trump’s deportation machinery makes a mockery of that.

Now is a really good time to donate to food banks, and do food runs for mutual aid groups. Also, do menstrual product runs.
I wonder how much food theft spikes with desperate people just trying to feed their families. I'm sure there will be a media panic about it.

Typhoon leaves flooded Alaska villages facing a storm recovery far tougher than most Americans will ever experience

It should not be as niche as it is, but I keep having to repeat it:

If your values don't apply to *everyone,* they're not actually your values. They are simply a favor that you do for people that you like.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

If you think that the folks evacuating western Alaska right now don’t deserve sympathy or support because they’re from a red state and “probably voted for Trump,” you should just go ahead and block me right now.

Being from somewhere is NOT a political stance, and NO ONE deserves to lose their home.

Key words in this clause of Trump terror memo are “trespass” and “civil disorder.” Rest is objectively or ostensibly illegal. But these terms bring under the “terrorism” umbrella something as simple as, say, sitting in front of an ICE entrance. Or, for that matter, just chanting from the sidewalk.

As per usual: no mention of political violence against Democrats. The armed man near Kavanaugh’s house who turned himself in becomes an “assassination attempt” while the actual assassination of Melissa Hortman not mentioned. Attacks on ICE facilities are political violence but not attacks on CDC.

Carpenter Media, without consultation with our newsrooms, pulled this story from the website today. A heinous dereliction of our duty and a cowardly move from the company who says they’re so invested in local news.
Rep. Sarah Vance announced tonight that she’s organizing a boycott of the Homer News over their fair and accurate reporting on her Charlie Kirk memorial service. Maybe she can get our corporate overlords at Carpenter Media to remember they own newspapers in Alaska.

COVID-19 has revealed that much of the US public is willing to accept mass death and abandonment. We were pushed by propaganda to see many around us as disposable. That helped set the tone for current fascist violations. I wrote about it for @prismreports.org.

Another way out: Building resistance when passivity is the norm
The COVID-19 pandemic should have shown us that we’re supposed to be meeting needs, not falling in line behind fascist incursions
