Bon Jovi's Livin' on a Prayer was just a love anthem to me my entire childhood and onward, it's only in recent years did I realize it was about holding on to love in during hard times (the 80's.) My dad was laid off several times, never made the connection.
not that the present economic picture is rosy, but i do think that popular culture — and specifically nostalgia bait television — is a big part of the reason that our public memory of the 1970s, 1980s and even 1990s seems to miss the real economic pain that marked each of those decades.

Before social media truly exploded we all knew someone like this, perhaps we wished we could be like them, or actively avoided them... Now we think we are *supposed* to be like this. There is a hustle to be had in every corner and there is always a grifter to show you how.
There's a dark triad for predatory scammer types: refusing to pay their bills; constantly name-dropping and social-climbing in pursuit of new marks; escalating depravity as if in an attempt to see if there's anything they can't get away with. The problem is that millions of Americans are like this.

I occasionally try not to buy into "both parties are the same' but then i look at the list of Dems who voted to ban trans athletes and its giving me pause to note how many took a shot at the presidency or have had some serious prime time minutes as representatives of the DNC.
Here are the 28 Dem Senators who voted to advance the first federal ban on trans athletes & a federal definition of sex that would make trans & intersex people non-existent: Angela Alsobrooks (MD), Tammy Baldwin (WI), Richard Blumenthal (CT), Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE), Chris Coons (DE), ->
By a vote of 76-23, S 1071 passes the motion to proceed to the motion to concur. Won't know who voted for this until the roll call is uploaded, but safe to say it passed with the support of at least 24 members of the Democratic caucus. (Rand Paul probably voted nay and Steve Daines has been absent).

I've been asked by every @clevelandclinic.bsky.social doctor over the past year "is it ok if I use this ambient AI it helps with charting" and it feels awful. It has made me hesitant to schedule care. I have talked to caregivers who use it and have gotten lucky they caught errors in charting. Stop.
Duolingo announced it was going “AI-first” just over six months ago. Since then its stock is down 64%.

I no longer play MtG but I still read about the game, it's interesting to me that it's old enough to have different generations of players and you can ID them based on the cards they talk about and how. Craw Wurm is a very old card (oldhead) a reply is riffing on it being inefficient (much younger!)
with mtg out of politics we can finally get back to talking magic the gathering unencumbered. i for one uhhhhh appreciate the classic craw wurm. “gone off that loud”. and so on
