Much as I love retro games there are definitely parts of retro gaming I don't miss. Memory cards are one of them. Paying $20 for 15 save slots and having to ration them out between your games was a pain. RPGs still had a lot of permanent missables so missing one meant starting from scratch!

more videogames should include parasitism as a mechanic. there need to be more gross little things that infest your inventory and take up item slots.

A lot of people complain about game devs or animators or whoever taking inspiration from the same 3 anime like Akira but I think the real problem is the people who say that usually don't have any real relationship with the pieces and just soullessly try to copy the surface level aesthetics poorly

I do enjoy how the Paper Mario/Mario & Luigi games consistently go out of their way to imply that Mario is a volcano of raw sexual magnetism, but I simply cannot imagine how that would play out in a mainline Super Mario game. I don't think Nintendo's in-house writing team has it in them.

Honestly after playing Vintage Story it's hard to ever really take Minecraft seriously again
Vintage Story is like some alternative universe where mojang didn't limit itself to cutesy mass appeal marketing and eventually turned the game into a complex, realistic and deeply immersive game instead

The concept of Nightreign is really interesting to me, because it looks like it's leaning into the connected multiverse idea, throwing Dark Souls bosses into Elden Ring without pretense. It feels like potentially a way to reduce dev costs to allow more freedom with such an experimental game concept.

I’m 100% ok with gatekeeping incels. If you can’t handle a woman being the protagonist or a non-white person being the protagonist of a video game, I don’t think you deserve to play games.

Kinda bummed that Nightreign is apparently only one player OR three players, and not cross-platform. I really want to play with my partner, but to do that we HAVE to bring along a third wheel, and we're limited in which friends we can ask.
