it's always struck me as a bleeding hole in accessibility discussions how conversations about reaction time only conceive of "the log" as something that exists to present missed dialogue, never missed events, because an event log is instead conceived of as a gameplay feature (see: resource gauges)
perhaps the single greatest turn resolution system ever invented was "turns resolve instantly with simplified visual indicators and a log to provide a recap on the most pressing information" and you can play it now at your local traditional roguelike

getting it out of the way, I don't believe in turns as a concrete philosophical unit in singleplayer virtual gameplay, and I do think all systems of step management referred to as either real-time or some variation of turn-based are illusory at best, but I sure do love simultaneous turn-resolution
