welcome to bluesky. if the word "mapquest" means anything to you and/or you used it as a verb, you're in the right place

This deal to reopen the government is fucking disgraceful.
Tens of millions will lose their healthcare. Trump will be emboldened.
This is exactly what’s wrong with Democratic Party leadership and why we need more people in Congress who will actually hold the line.

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

ICE agents in Chicago violently detain a non verbal autistic man for being “non compliant”
He couldn’t “comply” because of his disability…they don’t care
This is not the first time they’ve gone after a disabled person
They target the most vulnerable because it’s an easy way to meet their quota

There had better be trials. And not just for the low-level thugs carrying out these orders, but for everyone up the chain of command.
If we get past this, the solution isn’t to pretend it never happened and invite Stephen Miller to Harvard’s Institute of Politics.
It’s trials w real punishments.

A family friend was telling us about what her husband shared about his experience in Broadview before he was deported back to Mexico. She's been sharing to friends and family because she's just in disbelief & horror what her husband told her. She wasn't able to talk to him until he was in Mexico.

Villains used to obfuscate. They looked normal on tv and said things like "Fiscal discipline." Now you have grotesque guys hissing "Empathy is weakness" like a cartoon
I helped make a film, out this week, called “Rovina’s Choice,” about the deaths this man without conscience or accountability has caused — already 600,000, ⅔ of them children.

Can't believe folks are experiencing dragon quest 1 and 2 for the first time through these modern remakes that completely change the pacing and play. I'm so glad I played the original, authentic releases on GameBoy Color

There's a lot of wonky analysis going around about the Mamdani win about demos this values that. I'm all for sticking with your values and I think that was integral to the campaign.
But y'all are really discounting the power of how charming his smile is. Dude honestly has a great "honest" smile.

It’s hard to believe but there was a cartoon about an immigrant mouse and it was seen as totally fine and not controversial and not woke because it was an aspirational and nice thing about America that people could come here and find a better life

I remember being in 4th grade on 9/11. "never forget", and racism and islamophobia and jingoistic bullshit. Everything in the world shifted in response to that day. Iron Man came out as an Iraq War analogy.
I feel like I'm watching the world flip a page to the next chapter of history and culture.

OpenAI pirated large numbers of books and used them to train models.
OpenAI then deleted the dataset with the pirated books, and employees sent each other messages about doing so.
A lawsuit could now force the company to pay $150,000 per book, adding up to billions in damages.
