Absolutely. I teach composition and I am not giving up on actually teaching people how to write.
Attention AI sycophants: Professors will not back down on this. You are not the ones in the goddamn trenches dealing with the consequences of your willful ignorance about education/ research. It's sickening. It's evil. For shame.

I’m really glad I bought an EV last year. I love it, and it’s good to see it’s making a difference overall.
EVs beat petrol cars on lifetime emissions — even on “dirty” grids.
Battery production is carbon-intensive, but EVs quickly repay that debt and end up 21–71% cleaner over 250,000 km.

We can’t wait for perfect grids: electrify transport and clean the grid now.

Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

Hassett: "On one of the Sunday shows, the anchor criticized the fact Walmart said the Thanksgiving dinner is cheaper by about $10. Then he said, 'Oh yeah, but they substituted generic stuff,' as if having a generic something is a crime for ordinary folks! It shows how out of touch these people are."

Reminder that Starbucks’ CEO made 6,666x more than the company's median employee in 2024.

This was the widest CEO-to-Worker pay gap in the entire S&P 500.

And we're supposed to believe Starbucks can't afford to bargain a fair contract with its unionized workers?
As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

I’m always surprised we don’t talk more about AWS as a single point of failure — and hence of vulnerability to censorship pressure.
Today's AWS outage, which affected a range of websites and applications—from Signal to Fortnite to key UK government services—reveals the dangers of relying on a handful of Big Tech firms, write Article 19's Corinne Cath and Don Le. These are not glitches; they are democratic failures, they say.

Portland City Councilor Mitch Green and veteran encourages those currently serving they can refuse unlawful orders.
Trump’s deployment of troops to Portland is a dangerous escalation of authoritarianism. Now is the time to find our own ways of standing up and fighting back to preserve our democracy. Fellow vets: we need you to muster. And those serving: you can refuse an unlawful order as you may receive it.

Agreed. I don’t think enough people get that a lot of the “guest” voices on MSNBC are former Republican operatives, as well as a few hosts. These were Bush admin people. They are partially responsible for the politics that allowed Trump an opening.
If this was the most "depressing 19 minutes" of Tim's life, imagine the life of Black, brown & Muslim people since the War on Terror & the ascension of Trump & MAGA's normalization of white supremacy & Islamophobia.

This nonsense civility politics. The politics of "white moderates" MLK called out.
Tim Miller’s argument is familiar. Some “Never Trump” Republicans want to draw a neat line in the sand: on one side, the chaos & cruelty of Trump; on the other, the “respectable” conservatism that came before him. It’s a comforting story — for them. I call bullshit.

Well, there it is. Sinclair is digging in for a fight, so please help push back -- find stations in your area, watch their local news to see what ads they run, then write those advertisers to tell them you're boycotting as long as they're on a Sinclair station.

This is an important point.

Also an important point: the media keeps referring to what Trump is doing as a “domestic crime push” when it FLAGRANTLY is not that.

It’d be easier to resist Trump’s autocratic moves if the media stopped parroting his nakedly bad-faith “crime” framing.
Let's say it again:

1) Harvard said "No," and Trump has backed off.

2) Chicago (and Illinois) said "No," and Trump has backed off.

It's day by day. But those who said "OK, sure," have gained nothing at all. Except shame.
(CNN) - President Donald Trump shelved his plans to target Chicago as the next city for his domestic crime push after advisers warned him that sending in troops .. could create legal headaches they want to avoid, sources familiar with the matter told CNN.
