My GP suggested magnesium glycinate, which wears to help with anxiety-based insomnia and that does seem to help.

For me, it felt mostly smooth as a student, BUT I was uncritical of it and very compliant/people-pleading. As a faculty member, I still think it’s a privileged kind of work, but it’s been much, much more of a fight to improve the institution and feel like my efforts are worth it.

Agreed. I teach college composition and have a strict no AI policy, yet they try to sneak it in anyway. It’s a disaster, and I am really worried about our future as a society.

That all went more or less to plan, then I decided to go back for an MFA in 2016, because I’d always intended to. I am now a poet and run a small indie press on the side while my academic career winds down to retirement. I’ve also served in admin roles at my institution off and on as needed.

Doubled major in English lit and creative writing, but decided to pursue a lit PhD because it was more employable (this was the 80s). After I finished, I had some contingent employment, and in 2001, found a full time, TT job nearby, which was important because I had teenaged kids by then.

Family lore says I was fascinated by teachers (Professor Ludwig of the Daffy Duck stories) since before I can remember. I watched my teachers from at least first grade on, taking mental notes. Though I was a 1st gen college student, by high school I decided I wanted to be a professor.

My partner teaches high school. We constantly discuss what his college prep high school allows them to do that I am then cleaning up in comp classes, much of what you’re describing. They can’t fail kids. But Dan also gives them every break possible, which makes his job harder on him, honestly.
