People are rightly disgusted by this speech, but it’s a measure of fascism’s normalization that many see this as more of the awful same rather than what I think most of us who’ve been reporting this beat hear it as: a significant calculated escalation. Full alert stuff.
JD Vance gets the biggest applause of his speech so far when he says "by the grace of God we always will be a Christian nation"

This is really bad. Not least because of the massive hit that our healthcare system is about to take from the Big Ugly Bill. Every healthcare provider I've talked to since passage has noted that they are likely going to have to reduce headcount.

Paxton tells Texas schools to follow Ten Commandments law despite court ruling
Attorney General Ken Paxton's guidance comes days after U.S. District Judge Fred Biery sided with 16 families who sued their school districts to stop the law from going into effect.

Trump wants to get people used to having the military on the streets of our cities. That should scare everyone. He’s testing how much overreach people will tolerate.

It's coming to Chicago and Baltimore next.

We’ve uncovered fraud, waste, and abuse! ICE has now exceeded its congressionally approved budget. ICE is violating the Antideficiency Act by spending beyond Congressional authorization.

We really do need to level the political playing field so that a welder or electrician who wants to run for office has the same equal political financing power as a real estate developer or tech bro. Money shouldn’t define a campaign, ideas should.

Not quite my experience when I go grocery shopping -- but I guess groceries are an old classic idea where you just put things in a bag.

Dedicated bicycle lanes save lives, yet another study shows.
Cities with dedicated bike lanes had 44% fewer deaths and 50% fewer serious injuries than the average American city, partly because that infrastructure tended to slow traffic down slightly.

The Greenland ice sheet holds about 2,700,000,000,000,000 tons of ice.

Most of this has been there for at least 120,000 years.

Melting all that ice would increase global sea levels by about 7.4 m.

Making Greenland Green Again would wipe out most coastal cities.
