I don't doubt that some women feel unsafe walking in the dark, but this article would have been much improved if the writer had included the information that most violence against women is committed by people we know and not by randoms on the street.
'Dark winter nights feel like an unspoken curfew for women'
Women in the north west of England speak of how they have to be more cautious as nights turn dark.

For the first time next term, I'm teaching a class on Superheroes! While I have way too much knowledge about DC/Marvel characters/history - I have never thought about integrating that directly into my teaching. I welcome recs for comics/scholarly readings & other advice on potential directions! Tnx!

Contrary to a lot of journos, I don't really think that Farage's racist past should be used to divert so much attention from his racist present.

Yesterday I turned down the opportunity to do an arts-based grant bid (quite a large one) with the theme of using art to tackle social challenges. Sounds great, right?

Well. The focus was on artists using an 'ethical, human-centric AI'. I do not believe such a thing exists. So, I noped out of that.

this isn’t shocking or scandalous in the slightest if you’ve been paying attention to gazans or pro-palestine activists or (as always) sex workers

When folks are enthusiastic about comic art that I also love, I go to my drawing table and do more work.
That enthusiasm is juice, energy, inspiration.

The real 'message' the Mahmood announcement sends is: the Labour government is quite happy for the UK to be perceived as a racist country.

If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

When conditions improve in labor, it is almost always because people rioted.
Not because technology granted it to us.
And certainly not because our bosses did.

Please don't fall for the lie that AI is 'going to lead to a three day work week.'

Sadly, MOST 'innovation' applied to labor results in WORSE CONDITIONS.

Cellphones made us available when we were not in the office.
Emails destroyed the boundary of business hours.

It always asks us for more.
