Some thoughts on the CR/minibus.

1 The Dems negotiating with Rs were not freelancing. They coordinated with Sen Schumer. A few were ready to give in on day one, others worked to maximize appropriations wins.

Those voting for the 'deal' are the ones furthest away from electoral consequences.

I can't keep up, is the RightWingWorld decrying the crime-ridden immigrant-infested hellhole of NYC today, or are they wringing their hand and sorrowfully offering prayers for the future of the Great American City they all so deeply and sincerely love?

This coin operated 'Opium Den' automata is one of the least morbid creations of Leed's based John Dennison, the first person in the world able to make a living out of arcade slot machines which proliferated in Blackpool in the late 1800's. Other subjects included executions & drunk in a graveyard.

Have not gotten through all of them, but really enjoying the Jean Rollin films on Criterion. Atmospheric, lyrical, a little smutty, a lot gothic. All about 90 minutes. Really fitting the October mood #criterionchannel

heretical priests and strange sex magick rituals! in the 70's satanists were quite dedicated to attempts to birth a new dark overlord....whatever happened to that?? Less some of the (light) gore and nudity, felt like something from Mystery! in the 80's when that show was a bit weirder.

This deserved a big bowl of popcorn/large soda. Scuzzy, campy, surprisingly energetic and still current. Absolutely atrocious early 80's fashions, and a NYC you probably don't want to re-visit. Absolutely luminous Zoe Tamerlis, knew nothing about her (or her sad short life).

Something that I think might explain a bit of the mainstream liberal kowtowing to MAGA in the post-Kirk environment comes from Paul Berman's Terrorism and Liberalism book, where he argues that liberals have a rationalistic sense of proportionality about the world.

No one has been more vindicated than normie resistance Dems, women’s marchers and never-Trump Republicans. They were right all along about the threat. The anti-anti-Trump Republicans and reactionary centrists, and the far left “it’s always been this bad” folks have been proved wrong over and over.

Oh, Robert Redford. Re-watched All the President's Men only a few days ago; he was always just so quietly graceful on-screen, so easy to watch. Barefoot in the Park, Out of Africa, All is Lost - so many great films. And seemingly a fundamentally decent person.

Interesting that both Robert Redford, who played Bob Woodward in 1976, and the real Bob Woodward outlived the Washington Post.

The modern social media machine has so rotted our brains, so inured them away from humanity and decency, that for the first time in history, savage murder is treated as fodder for jokes. Thirty years ago, during the OJ Simpson trial, this would have been unthinkable.
