A major problem in 21st century USA is people thinking of themselves as consumers first and workers second
Meanwhile, workers don’t realize AI is a weapon that their enemies control but instead experience it as just another shitty consumer product. Replacing class consciousness with consumer identity has been devastating for humanity and the earth in general.

"writing code to solve a problem" used to have "understanding the problem" as a prerequisite. but vibecoding allows solution-shaped objects to be produced without any of the hard-won understanding. beware of solution-shaped objects.

So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

until pretty recently normie meant "not very online" but people are using it to mean "totally disengaged with politics" which has been a confusing shift. our "not very online" normies are some of our most effective political actors!
A very incomplete list of things we wouldn't have done if we waited for the normies to care:

- abolish slavery
- child labor laws
- votes for women
- social security
- fdic
- welfare
- medicare
- medicaid
- desegregation
- women's sports
"normies do not care about this thing and so it is no use raising a stink" is imho just an excuse for not doing politics, which is the job of making normies care about something

among the weirder Democratic tics is that it's unfair for their voters to have object permanence

we're in big trouble and i don't know what to do
Most American cities are actually pretty fun, safe places with families and normal people just living their lives, but to the paranoid suburban MAGA base who experience life primarily though a screen, cities are violent scary places that need to be purged by heroes in uniform

oh look, it’s literally the thing i wrote about for @rollingstone.com happening in real time. as we speak. like exactly what i reported, like a carbon copy.

as a reminder, here’s what i said people within the party and trans care advocates believe will most likely happen next.

anybody trying to point out that antifa isn't an organization is missing the point completely because that was done by design so that they can label anybody they deem politically inconvenient as antifa and have them deported to extralegal prisons or worse. it's well past time to stop complying.

Charlie Kirk sincerely believed that suffering through our outrageous levels of gun violence is a small price to pay for preserving the second amendment. I would like to congratulate him and his movement for living and achieving his principles to fullest possible extent.

I think more than anything else AI feels like a miracle to people with questionable literacy because it can read and write for you, and a lot of us who are highly literate underestimate how many of our society's leaders, esp in business, struggle with literacy.
It's pretty much mandatory at work that I appear to be using it, so I've doe a few functional things with it, and it's a moderate time-saver if used right. But nowhere near worth it's stock value, energy cost.

Then I realize there's a lot of people who simply can't write coherent paragraphs.

genuinely surprising how the mainstream media treats fascism as just another side. I assumed that new fascist media orgs would rise up, and they are, but it's also CBS et. al. positioning themselves halfway to anything. No principles whatsoever; I thought there were some, somewhere in there.
This is appalling. The dude interviewing Pritzker is implicitly advocating that we live in a military police state just because crime rates will go down. Yeah if you put a gun to everyone’s head crime rates will go down as well. But that’s not what a free society looks like. It’s a bad deal.
Pritzker: "We don't want troops on the streets of American cities. That's un-American and frankly the president ought to know better. This one doesn't seem to. He hasn't read any books. He doesn't seem to understand the Constitution or the laws."

A Trump voter imprisons your neighbor it’s law and order. Kicks their gay kid out its religious conviction. Shoots you dead it’s self defense. Kidnaps you, it’s border security. Invades your town, it’s fighting crime.

Tell them you don’t like them anymore, it was all just “political views.”
