When I talk about the importance of granting students accommodations WITHOUT relying on formal paperwork this is why it matters. It is DANGEROUS for some people to have diagnoses on their medical records. 1/3
We're learning more about NIH's plans for Secy Kennedy's new autism studies

NIH Director Bhattacharya says they're amassing a swath of confidential medical data to link together for first time, ranging from broader access to CMS records to smartwatch data

A lot of people like to dismiss racism as insubstantial to material realities but we’re watching a nation burn trillions of dollars in wealth to entrench a racial system of domination.

They're only banned if you let them be banned. The proper response from any agency is "Fuck you. See you in court." All of this website scrubbing and exhibit purging is cowardly and disgraceful. As Timothy Snyder has observed, it's simply teaching power what it can do.
The Trump regime expands its discouraged (BANNED) words across federal agencies. The list is long

Under fascism, no one is safe.

Universities stayed quiet as the admin targeted DEI & foreign aid, censored research, etc.

Now, they face devastating cuts to indirect cost rates, threatening research & operations.

Silence won’t protect institutions. It won’t protect people; it never does.

Great show and even greater thread. Ignoring the disabled community has helped lead to this moment where we see the erosion of all our rights under Trump. The disabled community tried to warn folks what was coming as ableism ran unchecked, and I hope now leftists are seeing mistakes they've made
Ableism "is a disease that thrives in darkness, it is never more alive than when we sleep," and we've been asleep for so long that much of what we feared has come to pass or will come to pass. Any protections under the ADA aren't safe. They're not set in stone, and they will be targeted.

Disabled people are not acceptable casualties.

Not during natural disasters.
Not during a pandemic.
Not during climate collapse.
Not for profit.
Not for optics.
Not at protests.
Not at school.
Not for election goals.
Not for personal comfort.

There is no justice without disability justice.

one reason i am pessimistic about what's coming with trump: i've spent the last 2 years watching the political media use propaganda to cover up or apologize for us-funded ethnic cleansing, and i'm not convinced a domestic ethnic cleansing will be covered differently than gaza has been

The Supreme Court is hearing oral argument today in US v. Skrmetti

I wrote a piece explaining how conservatives are trying to do the same thing to both pregnant people and trans kids: prohibit healthcare that saves lives and threatens traditional gender ideology

I fundamentally disagree w/ the idea that science is “apolitical.” Any critical thinker can see that what we call “science” is inherently invested with power, that the history of science is highly political, and that its benefits & risks are not distributed equally. It is important to be honest here
In the wake of the U.S. election, Natl Academy of Sciences President Marcia McNutt has authored a spot-on editorial in Science, stressing the apolitical nature of science and how it remains vital to informing a lot of public policy. Best read all week!! www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Notable they were more worried about the potential legal consequences for harming a fetus and not the legal consequences of the woman dying #reprosky
What's even more fucked once you read the full story is that the doctor insisted on an extra ultrasound AFTER the fetus was already declared dead while the mother was on the brink of death because they wanted documentation to cover their asses in case of a lawsuit.

Heinous beyond words.
A Pregnant Teenager Died After Trying to Get Care in Three Visits to Texas Emergency Rooms
