To commemorate World AIDS Day, the last stanza of a poem, an elegy, a memory that brings me to tears every time:

“The Language of Dust” by Assotto Saint

that night
we curled
into each other
aware
one of us
would leave roses
tears & kisses
on our tombstone
the next november 9th/

I haven’t seen this get covered in English yet so let me translate.

A few books from different seasons of my life.

A WRINKLE IN TIME as a kid was profound.

KITCHEN by Banana Yoshimoto was mind-blowing in college. Gender fluidity, different types of love, written in the ‘80s.

Most recently, OUR SHARE OF NIGHT. Also fucking love the cover

I just barely missed this trend when I went on the job market in 2017. Thinking about this is just wild. And somehow so on brand for academia.
If you are not in academia, you might not know this, but job interviews used to be held at conferences IN HOTEL ROOMS. Women candidates in a hotel room alone with often all-male committees. People sitting on beds! The horror stories I've heard.
I thing I sometimes thing about is that university departments were still doing job interviews in hotel rooms in the mid aughts

Disturbing news out of Auburn University, where the admin is pressuring professors to sign a statement saying they're complying with an "anti-DEI" law and TPUSA is holding a rally and trying to record classes.

I hear faculty are terrified to sign, worried this is a pretense for mass firings.

Let’s get it, VA!
Looks like the Dems will pick up 12 seats in the VA House of Delegates, which will go from 51-49 to 63-37 D-R. That's an honestly shocking result.

The depth of the shame of a country this wealthy and abundant allowing its people to go hungry is impossible to measure. The fact that a handful of people could fix this by paying their fair share of taxes while still remaining obscenely wealthy makes it even worse.

Alarming and unsurprising. Autocratic regimes tend to target LGBTQ folks first. Sprinkle in white Christian nationalism, the current censorship war on books, and right-wing tech companies, and queer folks have few safe spaces left. We’re seeing the erosion of a healthy civil society.
New Report on Hate: Physical attacks on LGBTQ ppl are linked to growth in politicians attacking us. Online spaces erase us [most influential LGBTQ activists are shadow banned on X] & tech has changed rules to allow us be attacked [IG, FB, X etc]. Books censored: www.isdglobal.org/digital_disp...
