Coworking on Discord with friends outside of the US is always a fun little cultural exchange, where I get to learn what a kookaburra or different species of magpies sound like, and they get to learn how to differentiate a car backfiring from a gunshot

Please, writers, you know what you are. You are competent, practiced, and brilliant.

Don't shrink to make people with great insecurities comfortable. That's their journey to work through, and not your fault. People just get in their feelings at anything that reminds them of their insecurities.
I got bullied at school as a child because I would never do this, and I’ve had grief in workplaces more than once (not my current teams – they’re all awesome). Women in particular are expected to pretend to be incompetent, and we’re “arrogant” if we don’t. It’s exhausting. Unlearn that nonsense.
I'm going to be brutally honest with my fellow writers: when I see a promo post and it's entirely self-deprecating about your work or value as a writer, I skip right past it.

On Comey…Many are saying, well, he won’t be found guilty. And I share that hope.

But that’s missing the point.

Remember the infamous call with Zelensky….Trump simply wanted one thing —the announcement of a public investigation against Biden.

Stomping back in here briefly and grumpily one last time to leave you all with this:

Social media succeeds and profits by convincing all of us that we must make ourselves into individual cults of personality instead of building and contributing to communities.

It’s time to stop playing along.

I am begging you to understand how madness spreads in a society. It's not just blind panic among the ignorant that there's a monster coming. It's smart-sounding people insisting you are a bad person unless you, also, believe in the monster and join the panic.

There is, as of right now, no coverage of this protest on the WaPo website or in their @washingtonpost.com feed.

So, if you (you reading this) want people to SEE this protest, you must share it.

Every damn day things get worse.
This is absolutely catastrophic for U.S. higher education, and for U.S. global leadership. Just the latest in a series of senseless acts of self-sabotage by a malevolent administration bent on making the United States weak and poor.
I know there's a lot happening today, but this is sneaking in under the radar. This proposed new rule would absolutely crush foreign PhD students, potentially making it impossible for them to enroll with any certainty of their ability to finish www.politico.com/news/2025/08...

LOL remembering the person who, when Provenance had been out less than a week, emailed me to let me know it was RIDDLED with typos, "he" had been turned to "e" and he had spent hours finding someone at Amazon who would take it down because that level of bad editing was just wrong and embarrassing.
Reminder to the reading public: if you report a book to Kindle for "typos" Amazon may yank it off publication completely and demand the author fixes the "typos". Even if the typos are vernacular English and YOU are the idiot who didn't check a big enough dictionary.
I'd like to give a big, sincere and wholehearted thank you to the reader who's just reported Copper Script to Amazon for errors including "reader doesn't know British English exists", "reader doesn't know the word 'insuperable'", and of course this. For a British book about two British people.
