Yes. And also, let's not forget that there is no shortage of pigeons in this world, so the strategy of incompetence is working out just fine
if you’re feeling incompetent or useless today, just a reminder a bird thought this was a perfectly acceptable place to lay eggs

you’re doing fine

Granted, I'm not one of Cory Booker's constituents, but I did write him a scathing note as I unsubscribed from his email newsletter last week, telling him to get off his dead ass and do something. So I like to think I'm partially responsible for today.

What if we ate healthy foods to prevent contagious and deadly diseases, but instead of food it was like a liquid produced in a lab by a scientist, and instead of eating it we put it into our muscle?

Awfully convenient that the corollary to this is that when a kid gets really sick or dies, it must be the parents' fault for not feeding them well enough.
This kind of antivax nonsense is expected but so disheartening to read. How many parents are going to believe that if their kid is healthy, they won't suffer any of the terrible consequences a measles infection can bring-- blindness, deafness, and oh yeah, death.

Look. I have a flock and a degree in poultry science. I love to get people excited about keeping chickens.

I also have seen the average person's grasp of farm biosecurity and can say withiut a doubt that everyone in the US getting chickens is going to make the avian flu epidemic much, much worse.
Trump’s Sec of Agriculture Brooke Rollins says the solution to high egg prices for Americans is to get some chickens and raise them in your backyard.

The cruelty is the point
North Dakota Republicans are trying to ban Plan B.

I relied on Plan B not just when I missed a pill, but also when I was raped. In fact, 1 in 3 women ages 15-49 used plan B in 2022-23. Taking away this form of contraception is senseless and cruel.

No one around me (working in hospice) seems concerned about the future of hospices in the US and I can't stop worrying about it

The cruelty is the point
Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania has indirect rate of 70%, but they probably didn’t want to list that atop Harvard because defunding a children’s hospital might be perceived as problematic.

This is devastating
These overhead rates are negotiated. Lowering it unilaterally to 15% is another way to destroy science in the US. Can’t wait to see what’s next.

My #1 travel tip: find the public library. There is one in every city, town and suburb. They always have a clean public bathroom, a drinking fountain, wi-fi, computers and printers. You can hang out when you have awkward amounts of time and often they will give great restaurant recomendations.

Truly, there is no greater joy than deciding the outside world contains too much and staying home on a holiday. Adding in the decision to not do the giant meal and to play rummy with my kids instead really took it over the top.
