Thank you for this. A reminder I needed just now.
You’re not beholden to respond to every rando that decides to challenge you on something just b/c they had or are having one bad experience. Some people on this app simply like being argumentative and confrontational for the sake of it (especially twitter/X refugees) and nobody is entertaining that.

Still chuckling over the Greater American Cable Seeking Backhoe.
Note that there is also a commercial fishing vessel named the Miss Take that dredges up undersea cables.
(There might also be a Russian vessel that does it on purpose).
The four horsemen of internet service outages are DNS, BGP, the Greater American Cable Seeking Backhoe, and a fucked up config file getting propagated through the network, and the result is in: the fourth horseman is what got Cloudflare this time blog.cloudflare.com/18-november-...
Cloudflare outage on November 18, 2025
Cloudflare suffered a service outage on November 18, 2025. The outage was triggered by a bug in generation logic for a Bot Management feature file causing many Cloudflare services to be affected.

Endorse! Endorse! Wholeheartedly endorse!
I am increasingly of the opinion that people who change menus and look and feel of computer software just so that you know it's a new version should be personally forced to play tech support to my mother for five months.

And visit only where I liked,
And no man visit me,

And flirt all day with buttercups,
And marry whom I may,
And dwell a little everywhere,
Or better, run away

Oops, this is because I follow you. I read the convo out of order. In proper context you're even more obviously correct than I realized.
Leaving my post up for the reference to history professors walking around growling under their breath on Jan 30.
I don't want to disagree when you're right, but in the posted convo they seem to be boxing you into a wrong box.
Of *COURSE* Hitler didn't come out of absolutely nowhere to be appointed in 1933.
But without that appointment (along w/ concomitant violence, lawlessness, & intimidation), no Hitler.

If you truly worry we're headed for fascism, then watch the 1969 movie "Z", a barely-veiled retelling of the 1963 assassination of Greek politician Lambrakis, made two years after the junta took power. It was on TCM last night, but I saw it as a kid after being in Greece in that time. /1

We are not even *close* to that. And if people keep showing up to vote the way they did on Tuesday, we never will be.

Listen, my children, as here is unfurled
The story of the sandwich that was hurled
On the 10th of August in ‘25;
What a moment to be alive!

As many chose to look down and duck,
One man decided he had to stand up,
And so he wound up, and said ‘What the f___’
And gave his sandwich a freedom chuck.

You can get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich, but you can’t get them to convict one!

I think - I think I would endorse this, actually.
But who would be in charge of the course? Is easy to imagine some public sector info providers who, um, might not be reliable.

I too choose to believe the parents. No soap, reasonable water temperature, quick removal from chlorinated to dechlorinated water. And goldfish are tough.
When I was a toddler I used to ask my parents to put my goldfish in the bath with me, and those maniacs actually did it.

I have long believed that surface parking lots should be covered by solar panels. Failing that, they should at least be covered by vine-covered pergolas. But solar panels would be better.
Meanwhile, in South Korea: "Starting at the end of November, public parking lots with more than 80 spaces will be required to install solar power generation facilities. This obligation applies not only to newly constructed parking lots but also to existing ones."

Sure does seem as if this requirement was put into place to prevent grocery stores from charging MORE to SNAP recipients because the costs were being passed on to the govt.
I wonder if there is a regulation or law that might spell this out in better detail?
The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email
