I prefer to edit a work in the order my reader will encounter it, because jumping around makes my brain hurt. But damn, was something really not clicking today and for once the issue was that I needed to work on a later portion and fix the earlier bit to match, not vice versa.

Researching always reminds me of how dogshit Google & AI overview is. I'm explicitly looking for ideas for minor surgeries, I don't think a spinal surgery counts, AI.

Yes, I know I can add -ai but sometimes I forget and I also deeply resent that I have to in the first place.

“Fascism is a temper tantrum disguised as an ideology” is the pull-quote here. 🔥 This is great.
Dam been writing a book about this and she just TikToked it in 90 seconds.

Restaurant. Too many vowels too close together and my brain cannot.
Embarrassed. Is it one or two r’s? Gets me every time.
Hello, I'm a professional author and I can never spell permanently or camouflage on the first try.

You do not have to like Kimmel or Colbert to understand that this is fundamentally wrong and a pretty big tumble down the slope.

I'm seeing fall fashion all over my feed, my handknits are begging to come out of storage, and I just got a gorgeous new fall dress I'm dying to wear.

I live in the South. It's going to be 85 degrees for AT LEAST another month.😤

I agree with JD Vance’s last statement—that we can only have a world free of political violence when we work to dismantle the sources of that violence.

I personally suggest that JD Vance look in the fucking mirror.
In a Hitleresque speech, JD Vance says there can be no unity with the left and vows to use the government to dismantle non-profit NGOs and liberal civil society who he says promote violence and terrorism.

READ ME SLOW is a high-heat/low-angst novel about a romance author and the horror podcaster she accidentally hires to narrate her book.

She’s 45 and so stressed 😭
He’s 30 and her little brother’s best friend 🫣

📆Out October 28!

I wrote about what it means for nearly half-a-million union contracts to dissolve overnight. Union presidents were locked out of their offices. Moms are being forced to cut their maternity leaves short. Clerical staff are answering VA hospital call bells.
What It Means When Federal Union Contracts Disappear
Deteriorating services, moms forced back from maternity leave, and more as federal workers lose formal union protections.

"No work. Only pets." It's hard to get a good picture with only one available hand, but every time I tried to use my mouse or keyboard, he would (gently) pull my hand back to his head for more scritches.

Anyone else buy 3x as much food as the number of guests? Everyone? Glad it's not just me. Anyways, I'll be over here with my Labor Day Leftovers for the next week.

It is just wild to me that the largest facility used during Japanese internment will now be used to intern immigrants from ICE raids, people who are disappeared by masked officers off the streets, and there is still a debate about whether naming and shaming those doing it is fair.

The reddest of red flags, conveniently set in red text. No legit publisher will append something like this to their email, and Victoria Strauss / Writer Beware are invaluable resources to check whenever something seems iffy.
Scammers are really intent on scaring authors into not contacting someone like me. For example, this "confidentiality notice", appended to a fake offer of publication from Celadon Books, which threatens "blacklisting" of the author "across the entire publishing industry"

Hi authors! Please remember to file a claim!
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action
Advocates fear such settlements will “financially ruin” the AI industry.

Yesterday, someone IRL asked my advice on being a writer, so here’s the advice I gave her:

Finish the damn book.

You’re going to get to a point while writing a book when writing LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE seems like a better idea. Resist that temptation.

Finish the damn book.

Exactly this.

Please think about how many people will die in a civil war. If we have the same proportion of casualties as last time, we are looking at around ten million deaths.

And I think it'll be worse.

Update: after repeatedly getting jostled by the Horrible Moving Desk during nap time, Orange Boy has decided it is tolerable and not important enough to find a whole new napping spot.

Got a new standing desk last week. Unfortunately Best Orange Boy was napping on it this morning when I adjusted the height and this was Not Approved Behavior on my part. Orange Boy left on a huff to find a new, non-moving napping spot.

I've seen people say things like "our troops weren't designed to be used on US!!!" and look, I totally understand, I agree in some ways, but I really, really hope that if you feel that way you spend time thinking about the fact that there's no such thing as a weapon that can't be pointed at you.
