Been watching too much semi-pro YouTube. I just want to grab everyone's scripts and give them a good hard editing.

People react with horror to the thought of women being forced to seek "back alley" abortions but not to trans people being forced to seek black market hormones and surgery even though the risks and the principle of bodily autonomy are the same in each case.

Damn it, I'm in a doctor's waiting room
found out about the "one electron" theory that every electron has identical charge and mass because it is one electron traveling infinitely fast backward and forward in time interacting with itself repeatedly. This is what i believe now. I believe there is but one electron. And i'm going to fuck it.

We are in the middle of the second-largest COVID surge of the pandemic. This decision is not based on science, it’s based on worker exploitation.

I was supposed to see my dude in October but he got COVID. I was gonna see him for Christmas but the relative who'd watch his kids got COVID. He was gonna drive here tonight finally but the new person who'd watch his kids? Just tested positive for COVID. Mask up. The pandemic is far from over.

Same!

If an editor says "I suggest you make this change here" what they mean is "that bit doesn't work for me, as it is: please fix it", along with their idea of a fix. They're almost certainly right about it not working, but you're the author, it's your job to come up with a *better* fix.

A report from the ground that COVID is spreading rapidly in Gaza. Gaza is a public health crisis. We need a ceasefire now, and world leaders to stop denying that the pandemic is still going.

Normalize virus reports like weather reports. We appreciate weather reports even if they bring us bad news, as they help us plan ahead and avoid accidents.

We need to stop being in denial about airborne viruses spreading. Sharing data helps us prepare and makes our lives easier.

Went to the Royal Academy today & discovered Interior by Armand Guillaumin featuring a statuette of the goddess Sekhmet perhaps dating from the reign of Amenhotep III c. 1390-1352 BCE, showing both the exoticisation of ancient Egypt & British colonialism (created during the the veiled protectorate)

People who are disabled, chronically ill, higher risk etc. have every right to be angry about being abandoned by multiple governments. And they have every right to express that anger in whichever way they choose. Period. We should all humbly listen to them and act.

When we think of whiteness as ideology, we move beyond expectation that only those who think themselves white can be tempted by its affordances.

I shared this on Twitter while ago—reply to student who asked how Jan 6 could be abt whiteness if there was smattering of non-whites there.

Remember the ban on trans women playing in women's chess? Turns out there's only one trans woman playing chess at a competitive level internationally. Yosha Iglesias of France is feeling singled out as an intentional ban turns out to impact literally just her.

My first thought was "no", but then I remembered the times that I was surprised to realise that the author or character was of a different gender of the one that I had presumed, *and the voice changed*.
When you are reading a book, do you head a voice reading to you? I hear a voice narrating...

My wife @lilah.bsky.social doesn't hear a narrator.

This is blowing my mind

"living with COVID"
The deal seems to be that people can largely live like in pre-pandemic times as long as we accept getting miserably ill maybe twice a year (especially during family holidays), accept heightened risks of long-term health problems, and let old/vulnerable folks die. Doesn’t seem like a good deal to me.

The lyrics everyone's posting are driving me nuts because I recognise so many of them, but can't place them. It's like when you get a fragment of a song stuck in your head, and you KNOW you know it, but for the life of you you can't summon up the rest of the song.
