Alma is a disabled activist and the daughter of a US Navy vet.

She was attending her monthly immigration check in with her lawyer when ICE grabbed her.

I wrote about her and other disabled people being abused at the hands of ICE.

Their stories are often untold or quickly forgotten:
Disabled People are Being Mistreated in ICE Detention Facilities
Why is no one talking about it? Where's the media? Where's the public outcry? Another example of the pervasive nature of ableism and how society views disabled people as expendable.

I'm on ODSP, which leaves me well below the poverty line..

To survive, I’m trying to raise $500/month on Ko-fi. That covers basics: food, hygiene, staying connected.
Even $3 helps. RTs (reposts) = love.

Hey, as a librarian I need to tell you:

Our funding depends on usage.

So go ahead and check out that book even if you don't think you'll finish it. No one will know. Check out that DVD even though you might not like it. Get ambitious in your quest for knowledge.

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

It costs a lot less to house people.
Finland ends homelessness and provides shelter for all in need - scoop.me
In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Why? The country applies the "Housing First" concept agains homelessness.

These charges are a blatant attempt to scare women from exercising their reproductive freedom.

More women will die, and many will be incarcerated.

Bring back the arts. Children need their passions nurtured and they aren't getting that AT ALL.
If you could launch any non-sports program for kids, what would you do?

There are around 20,000 species of bees in the world, yet honey bees gets most of the fanfare.

Here’s to the sweat bees, the leafcutter bees, the mason bees, the longhorn bees, the bumble bees, the carpenter bees, the squash bees, and all the rest of our unsung bee heroes!

Panda Express walked back their employee mask ban in response to public outcry.

Starbucks is also attempting to prohibit their employees from masking unless they have a doctors note.

Get loud. Call, email & boycott. These ableist decisions are reversible, we just need to keep up the fight!

Mandating a doctor’s note to mask voluntarily is such an insane infringement of basic personal liberties you’d think at least a FEW more ppl would be up in arms. But no, the cult of the right has convinced much of America that public health is a maximum priority enemy, somehow. Disgraceful

Imagine what would happen if we could agree that every person deserved the following basic rights:

Healthcare
Universal basic income
Due process
Clean air
Affordable housing
Education
Freedom to love/marry who they want

Abolish the billionaire class & ensure every citizen is taken care of.

If you’re masking to avoid Covid and get sick … please don’t feel guilty.

It’s much harder to avoid when everyone has adopted the “you do you” approach to public health.

Remember that your mitigations likely lowered viral load, and kept you from infecting anyone else.

It’s true community care.

Everyone believes they will be the exception. That chronic illness, homelessness or tragedy won’t befall them.

We can’t all be the exception. Life can change in an instant, and most will experience tragedy at some point in their lives.

We should all fight for better social supports & safety nets
