Don't forget about the DRM-free Humble Bundle from Tor (with Murderbot, Witch King, and more), benefiting World Center Kitchen. The donation is now at over 58,000. It would be awesome to get it up to $100,000.

I was about to start a spreadsheet of native (to my region) plants that provide food for wildlife and realized I already did (past me is on always top of things). What I've found especially hard is it's easy to find this info for birds and pollinators, but not for "pests." 🌱

i tell this story every time these old photos come up but: I remember in film school one of my classmates asked what about film chemistry in the 1970s caused everything shot in NYC to look so brown and grimy and our professor was like "that wasn't the film, that's just what the air looked like here"
It's not just fdr. One of the things the epa did not long after it was formed was document the nation's pollution via photography. That can seem frivolous, but generations of Americans have no idea why the EPA was necessary. This broke a million views when we published it in 2017
This is what America looked like before the EPA cleaned it up
A snapshot from America before the impact of the EPA and the effects of rules regulating clean water and air were felt.

Over 50% of nonviolent movements to overthrow governments are successful within one year of their peak.

The key is to engage over 3.5% of the country, a cross-section of society—clergy, kids, grandmas, teachers) using DIVERSE & CREATIVE tactics, with women in leadership.

We can do this.

This is a general lesson. If you want to grow garden crops, you are likely to have better luck with varieties that were bred from near where you are.

Big Ag puts a lot of work into corn/soy to make them grow well over wide areas.

Most lesser crops don't get that attention.
It can be so hard to know what will work in one’s garden. I’m lucky to live in the same county as an ag school that does a lot of crop development, so those varieties have better odds, but I couldn’t grow a melon worth eating if my life depended on it.

In 1890, the X and Y chromosomes were discovered. It was found that the men who were tested had 46 chromosomes, including an X and a Y, while women who were tested also had 46 chromosomes, including 2 X chromosomes.
So obviously the conclusion was that the Y chromosome defined masculinity.

So since we’re talking prepper stuff, here’s my personal experience with ways that apocalypse prep supplies go wrong: some people think that they only need calories and it doesn’t much matter where it comes from or what it tastes like because if you are hungry, you’ll eat it.

Outside of the disgusting morality of moving right by harming the most vulnerable among us (and it is disgusting), moving right also underlines another problem with the Democrats:

the sense that Democrats don’t actually believe in or stand for anything.
