once again absolutely thrilled to live in a country that refuses to implement universal healthcare and instead pretends it’s normal for its citizens to resort to asking for charity via platforms like GoFundMe in order to stay out of medical debt.

one thing i don't think a lot of centrists get is that what the president says is a speech-act, not just simple discourse; when he says something with the power of the presidency behind him, that means something
the single most un-american and anti-constitutional statement ever uttered by an american president

This is so horrifically monstrous.
New — The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) was told this week by DOJ that they'd lose their funding if the org didn't remove any mentions of LGBTQIA+ issues from their public materials, I've learned. Staff were told they need to deadname trans kids in their reports to comply.

Trump's anti-trans effort is an agenda cornerstone with echoes in history
Extremism experts say a now-familiar playbook to scapegoat transgender people in the wake of high-profile tragedies is part of a political strategy to sow division and expand authoritarian control.

This isn't a culture war. This is the only trans congresswoman, ever being bullied through the press and legislation, and having only 1 of hundreds of colleagues stand up for her. They can do more than 1 thing at a time. Defending her will not take so much effort that they can't do their jobs.
Defending Sarah McBride is absolutely the right thing to do, and yet there’s also the risk of being baited into yet another culture war cycle that distracts from the Republican grift. Her statement suggests she wants to move forward, and I think it’s wise to take the cue from her.

1. Nancy Mace, in an interview, made it clear that her opposition to Sarah McBride in Bathrooms was never about "safety," or "privacy"

She stated, "It's offensive that Sarah McBride thinks [she's] my equal."

The audacity of a trans person being her equal.

In recent days, Republican Lawmakers have announced that the first trans congresswoman will be banned from bathrooms. Now, Nancy Mace makes it clear that it was never about "danger."

I have absolutely avoided the bathroom or avoided food/water to avoid using the bathroom if I know I am going to be in public.

It's going to get worse.
This from 2016 (the last time bathroom bills were a big thing) shows the actual results: trans people typically just avoid using restrooms and sometimes endure kidney damage by doing so www.vox.com/2016/7/12/12...
