“WKRP In Cincinnati” premieres 47 years ago today — a show that creator Hugh Wilson based on radio staff he knew from his days in advertising.

“Every call letter that I ran through my mind was already taken,” he said. “I think WKRP was not taken because it can be said that it spells ‘crap.'”

This sucks! Also, there are zero OB-GYNs in Champaign County? Urbana is NOT that small!
Ohio has 24 counties without an OB-GYN, including two that border Union County — Champaign and Hardin, according to the nonpartisan nonprofit KFF, an independent source of research and information on national health issues ohiocapitaljournal.com/2025/11/26/w...

Colin Robinson! *That’s* who this guy reminds me of!
Hassett: "On one of the Sunday shows, the anchor criticized the fact Walmart said the Thanksgiving dinner is cheaper by about $10. Then he said, 'Oh yeah, but they substituted generic stuff,' as if having a generic something is a crime for ordinary folks! It shows how out of touch these people are."

Yes, HID headlights are very bright but the bigger problem is the proliferation of gargantuan vehicles with 5’+ hood heights so that if you’re driving a normal sized car their headlights are at your eye level rather than seat level like they’re supposed to be.

One of the things that truly sucks about these times is that you have to learn new-to-you* slurs to understand what’s going on

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?

It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.
