My hypothesis right now on the government shut down is that everybody in government, on both sides, understands that they will benefit more if Trump is the one who blinks.

Republicans could absolutely ditch the filibuster but it doesn't benefit them. It benefits Trump.

I will genuinely vote for anyone who runs on "I will be boring and responsible and you'll never have to think about me being weird"
When you see Mamdani looking all normal doing normal person things—petting bodega cats, riding public transport—you realize just how bizarre and estranged our average candidate for public office is. Rich martians in flesh suits

NEW: ICE is planning to build a shadow deportation network in Texas. A proposal outlines a 24/7 transport operation run by armed contractors—turning Texas into the logistical backbone of an industrialized deportation machine.

If anybody in your life talks like this or gets way too caught up in birthrates they need to seek therapy.
RFK Jr: "Today the average teenager in this country has 50% of the sperm count, 50% of the testosterone of a 65 year old man. Our girls are hitting puberty 6 years early ... our parents aren't having children."

The more fantastical the capabilities of AI becomes it inversely gets less interesting.

If I found anything interesting in AI video content it was playing "spot the jank". The jank and hallucinations are the only real charm.

I think the only classic American Actor who should be fair use to use in AI advertisements is Orson Welles.

Is the new legal analysis "Don't wanna"?
Johnson: "It's true that in previous shutdowns, many or most furloughed employees have been paid for the time they were furloughed, but there is new legal analysis - I don't know the details, I just saw a headline - but there are some legal analysts saying that might not be appropriate or necessary"

One of the low-key reasons racist assholes gripe so much about TV so much is that streaming de-segregated the media landscape.

In the cable TV era it was incredibly common for minority voices to be limited to certain channels that white people could easily ignore.
Someone wanted a little attention. 🙄

The Sora AI thing is proof of something very important: The technology itself is useless without the ability to use the likenesses of real, living, unpredictable people, and the art they create. And the only way to get those likenesses or that art is to summarily steal it.

The weirdest thing about everything being miserable culturally in America is how that misery is driven by the weirdest antisocial nihilists. So you may never actually meet any of these people outside in society until they show up with a gun somewhere.

Most of the time things seem fine and dandy.

Wife: I'll buy a subscription to any publication that writes one honest story about the "masculinity crisis" that just says "Men want to be able to treat women like shit and still get laid" and just be done with it. There's no more depth to the discussion. There is no nuance.

The average Cracker Barrel customer is a 70 year old who eats cream gravy on a regular basis.

The restaurant was created as a nostalgic escape in the 60s for an audience mostly gone now.

The rebranding is an attempt to get anybody under 40 in the building because they go bankrupt if they don't.
