My favorite things about the Nuzzi/Lizza stuff:

1) That Mark Sanford was the one in the story who showed the slightest bit of integrity.

2) Given what was already public when he was in the running for DHS, that anyone thinks Nuzzi could catch & kill info that would have killed his appointment.

More really cool science news: Scientists have extracted the oldest known RNA!

This is a particularly amazing feat because RNA degrades very quickly. (Also, we learned that Yuka here was a male, not a female as previously thought.) 🧪

Combine these two results with the current admin's full frontal attack on the First Amendment and you give Trump and pals the ultimate mechanism for Internet censorship.

You don't know what you're talking about. Please consult experts.

If you want to be an anti-230 activist, then fine. But don't do it under the guise of journalism. That's the point @mmasnick.bsky.social and many others who actually work in this space are getting at.

You are spreading misinformation under the title of journalist.

Hey @chrismurphyct.bsky.social, you talk a good game about fighting back against MAGA, so why are you teaming up with MAGA folks to require intrusive, privacy destroying surveillance that can and will be abused by those you keep warning us about?
The GUARD Act may look like a child-safety bill, but in practice it’s an age-gating mandate that could impose a mass censorship and surveillance regime on nearly every public-facing AI chatbot. Tell Congress to oppose the GUARD Act today. www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...

Imagine all the skill, love, creativity and problem-solving that a team goes into lighting and shooting a feature-length motion picture... and bozos online praise the look of the film and attribute it mostly to "they shot it on actual film!"

I'm so FUCKING angry right now.

Crushed them in the off year election? Have all the leverage? Public blames the shutdown on the GOP? What should we do?

If you're a spineless fuckhead centrist Democrat, you throw all that power away for no gain for you or the people who suffered for 40 days.

This feature illustrates how CGI is an artform that immense effort and talent goes into. And it's just as much an artform today, on films like Top Gun: Maverick, Frankenstein and Alien: Romulus, they just don't make VFX featurettes anymore.

The people who say "having VFX artists add sets and extras in post instead of filming them for real is lazy and bad filmmaking" as a negative about CGI will say "matte painting is a lost art that needs to be brought back".
Well which is it? Matte paintings never left, the tools just slowly evolved.

After striking out on the presale for Rush tickets Monday, I got my 3 seats in the general sale today. For the low price of $303/each! No binoculars or telescope included!

If you just heard a retching sound it's me vomiting as I remember that the 1st time I saw Rush the tickets were $30 each.

Rush's last album was 2013, their "last" tour '15. Never been unable to get tickets for them (I've seen them 9 times). I'm apparently going to miss this tour because the only tix left were >$600. I can afford it but I won't because it's insane. What made them explode this late into their careers?

CGI set extensions are just modern matte paintings, human artists creating movie magic. Here's how they work, using Wicked as an example.
