One problem here is that it’s hard to portray journalists as heroic protagonists now because there is not a lot of recent evidence IRL that journalists can be the tip of the spear for big positive change. Maybe supporting characters, but that’s it.

you can explain a lot of an establishment politician's actions by who their large donors are, not really or primarily because they do an explicit quid pro quo but because that's who they spend a lot of time with and therefore spend a lot of time listening to. especially goes for forgettable cogs

nahh it’s a bad movie and incredibly dumb premise like the entire new republic core worlds are destroyed and then we never hear anything about it and instead get a movie about a car chase where the spaceship is running out of space gas

Hunter S. Thompson was a good writer who was also an insane drug addict and generations of men in their 20s have destroyed their livers writing extremely boring pastiches as the result of incorrectly inferring some causal relationship there
just read a piece calling Nuzzi a "modern day political version of Hunter S. Thompson" and I think I need to log off
