You've lost *another* submarine?

Staring at defense and foreign policy and hoping one day it makes sense.

@sharonk.bsky.social what are the odds Donnie pocket vetoes the Epstein files? Because they seem way too calm (relatively for them) about it which makes me think they're not expecting him to sign it.

If you've ever read any Russian Telegram channel after a particularly deadly Russian missile strike on Ukrainian civilians or after a new pic/video of Russian war crimes is posted, you'll very quickly come to the conclusion that the Russia people might be irredeemable for several generations.
one genuine issue is that like, there's a sort of generalized cynicism that gets turned into "look everybody sucks so i'm going to support the demon at home"

For those unaware, the city of El Fasher in Sudan fell to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) today. The city was under siege for well over a year before it's defenses collapsed. Hundreds of thousands of civilians were sheltering in the city for protection against the RSF.

There's a reason why anyone who cares about Ukraine or followed the conflict for any substantial period of time considers the complete destruction of the Russian military in Ukraine the moderate position.

Look, I'm just saying, would any of us be particularly surprised if the US launched a stupid version of Operation Oak to free Bolsonaro? Yeah, it's insane and counterproductive, but so what? US foreign policy isn't real anymore. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gran_Sa...

Thinking about the time a centrist told me if we actually went after the Cartels "it would be like anti-piracy operations...they would just completely evaporate as soon as someone takes them seriously".
Tbh it’s taken longer for this to develop than I thought it would. But judging by the utter randomness of the Iran bombings, we could also get black Hawk down in Culiacán on a random Tuesday

Since this got a bit of traction, I'm just going to follow this up with a few historical events that I think are going to be particularly relevant to what I've been personally referring to as "Sicario 3: What Could Go Wrong?" AKA the looming US intervention in Mexico.
Like what are we gonna do if there's basically a Beslan-level incident at a resort in a previously "safe" part of Mexico and there are hundreds of Americans held hostage? Is anyone prepared for that? Are we ready for the aftermath if it gets bloody? This can go so horribly wrong, so quickly.
