You've lost *another* submarine?

Staring at defense and foreign policy and hoping one day it makes sense.

"Live free or die: Death is not the worst of evil" - Gen. John Stark
So, I'm not a big math guy, but there's gotta be more than 1,000 farms in this country needing a bailout from this, right? 12 billion/1,000 is only 1.2 million per. That sounds low considering farming can be super expensive for bigger farms. If someone knows more than me on this please correct me.

All of this horrible and evil shit has done wonders for my imposter syndrome though. Turns out if I had just abandoned my morals and become a soulless monster, I could be rich and powerful by now.

I'm really just waiting for one of them to say this word for word at this point.
"You just don't understand, Iran just used the Shaheds wrong. That's why they lost. We'll do it right."
December 8, 2025 at 7:35 PM
Alright, let's spin the wheel. What do we think they will say first:

"we need more special forces"
"stealth is irrelevant"
"AI will replace logistics"
"a Sun Tzu quote out of context and misunderstood"

I remember being hesitant that the Russians really were going to do it in Feb '22, because the VDV was still in the process of shooting and beating up Kazakh civilians in like late Jan of that year. The CSTO even straight up abandoned a member (Armenia) when they were attacked in '23!

Make it make sense
December 8, 2025 at 2:54 PM
Also going back to your original point, NATO expansion (willing, can be left at anytime, requires several democratic votes) is bad, but Warsaw Pact and CSTO (95% of the time used against members, ensured membership through coups, controlled exclusively from Moscow) is good.
December 8, 2025 at 2:54 PM
"and not the BS about grand imperialist ambitions rooted in the slavic psyche."
I-what?? You cannot claim you listen to what the Russians say, and then immediately say it's not that! They say that out loud like every 5 minutes! And God help you if you look at the comments "normal" Russians post.

The fact that the Ukraine Lend-Lease Act was never once used remains incomprehensible to me. Yeah, sure, we didn't want to debt-trap them. Okay, fine. Why not lend them a fuckton of air defense to sit in Western Ukraine outside of any real risk of being damaged so they can return it postwar?
December 8, 2025 at 1:50 AM
And we didn't even let them do the "land" part how we do it because we didn't give them the ATACMS until after the offensive had stalled! Not sure it would have changed the outcome, but Russia with several dozen burning Mi-28s and Su-34s matters a hell of a lot more in April '23 vs October.
December 8, 2025 at 1:17 AM
Given this and the coup attempt earlier this year, do you think Nigeria will be strong enough to resist the next coup that's undoubtedly lurking around the country?
December 7, 2025 at 9:26 AM
Well Kyiv has a long memory, and I'm sure Damascus does too. One day, we'll see major progress on this front I hope. Wouldn't be the first time the GUR has talked with Al-Sharaa after all...

If you followed Syria at all, there's a reason a lot of us were dancing with joy almost a year ago today. @notaterrornerd.bsky.social summarized it best though imo.
December 6, 2025 at 9:19 PM
And really it shouldn't be that way. This is not a knock against either, they do an unbelievably fantastic job, but where is most of the supposed "serious media"? Where are the governments detailing to the people the horrors unfolding? The boycotts? The sanctions? Anything?

Two of the best sources on Sudan who are active and discuss it accurately are a Dutchman who makes better conflict maps than most intel agencies for free (@thomasvlinge.bsky.social) and a Romanian who speaks fluent Eastern Euro and Middle Eastern brainrot (@miyhnea.bsky.social).
December 6, 2025 at 6:25 PM
Sudan has unfortunately served as a very good reminder of a) just how horrible things can get, and b) what happens when the genocide isn't in people's social media. Anything from El Fasher alone is some of the darkest shit imaginable, but few people even pretend to care cuz it ain't on TikTok.
December 6, 2025 at 5:57 PM
Anyone who says they look forward to a civil conflict has no idea what an actual civil conflict looks like. Anyone who watched Syria could tell you just how quickly and awful it can get.

How did you make this? I need this template for a group chat.

Never forget that the Russians had an okay plan to deal with corruption and reform the military, but they were too corrupt, so they ditched it (and the Defense Minister behind it). The biggest of brain plays.
December 6, 2025 at 2:19 AM
It is crazy that the Russians straight-up abandoned their pre-war doctrine (which wasn't the worst, if somewhat overconfident) because they didn't expect major resistance when they went in. And by the time they could have reorganized to implement it properly, it was too late.
December 6, 2025 at 2:02 AM
Personal theory is that they see it as a golden opportunity to kill off the American shale industry and solidify their new inroads in Europe to replace the Russians.
December 6, 2025 at 1:55 AM
Do you think the PRC is considering accelerating their timetable because the US might not intervene to help Taiwan?
December 6, 2025 at 1:51 AM
I don't think we as Americans have really processed the fact that when we say this shit often enough, it's going to sound like this to most of the world after a while
