It’s especially ironic because the lecture is exactly about the ‘paralyzing cowardice’ of today’s elites.

About universities, corporations and media networks bending the knee to authoritarianism. /4

Do we really want to win the ‘League of Least Welcoming Nations’?
The home secretary is indulging in a lurid deportation fantasy with her new Denmark-style asylum policy. And, writes Sunder Katwala, her numbers don’t even add up…

If the system worked properly and fairly, this man would have been recognised years ago, been able to bring his family here and be a British citizen. Instead, he now faces being caught up in the Home Secretary's plans to switch refugees into what seems to be a minimum 20 year route to settlement.

Which of these is the "cause of our division"?

Those who came under the Ukraine Schemes to be protected from Russia's aggression?

Those sponsored to work in the Health and Care sector?

The BNOs from Hong Kong?

The students attending our universities?
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood made more explicit her argument that when ethnic minorities face racism, "we have no choice but to ask: what is the cause of our division"

Her answer is the level of net migration, 2019-23 causes racism. (She on Monday said it was caused by the scale of asylum)

Imagine trying to explain this to a shark.
It takes 225 million years or so for the Solar System to make one orbit around the galaxy. Sharks evolved long enough ago that they’ve done it twice.
Man, everything is so bleak, anyone got a fun fact or little bit of trivia they want to share

This is one of my favourite bits on here: the Uk actually taxes its top decile a lot and under taxes the middle, giving us Europes most progressive taxation system. European taxes for the top decile and then they get frozen out of the benefits system because the middle do not pay their share.

And this advice would entirely empower them.

I think part of why this is so galling is that Labour have *so obviously* been obsessive about trying to court favour over and above doing what they think will be good. Part of the criticism of them is that with a huge majority they have been ultra-cautious about doing unpopular things.
