The steadily growing population of rare lesser horseshoe bats in the shed (roughly 100) attests to the level of flying insect life in the forest outside, since each bat catches around 3,000 per night.

Healthy nature depends on healthy, wild, functioning *ecosystems*.

Rewilding delivers that. 🌏

This is a shocking indictment of public policy.
The NTA’s 2024 Travel Survey is out.

Car use is rising. Active and public transport are stagnant.

The consequences aren’t future risks — they’re here, for our health and the planet.

And make no mistake: this isn’t policy failure. It’s policy intent, locally and nationally.

Cyclist in collision with truck. Pedestrian struck by bus.

The driver is absent from the account. The vehicle is given agency. The vulnerable road user is positioned as the active party.

A subtle but powerful way of shifting blame, shaping how we think about road deaths diminishing accountability.

In 2016 Geoffrey Hinton said “we should stop training radiologists now" since AI would soon be better at their jobs.

He was right: models have outperformed radiologists on benchmarks for ~a decade.

Yet radiology jobs are at record highs, with an average salary of $520k.

Why?

RFK Jr. rolled out that old chestnut again about how healthy Americans were in the 60’s, so here’s a fact check.

In 1965:

-42% of American adults smoked; it’s 11% now.

-The infant morality rate was 24.7/1000; it’s 5.6/1000 now.

-Overall life expectancy was 70 years; it's about 77 years now.
