Any functioning, healthy democracy would have had Trump arrested the day President Biden was inaugurated, and thrown the book at him for as many of his dozens of alleged crimes as possible.

Public drug manufacturing could rein in Big Pharma and bring down costs of medicines like insulin—but states like California will need to get serious about investing in the internal capacity and infrastructure to pull it off. My first piece for @theprospect.bsky.social prospect.org/health/2024-...
Public Pharma’s Biggest Barrier
California is about to start developing and manufacturing insulin. But is the state too tied up with nonprofit Civica Rx, rather than building its own capacity?

Media coverage has almost exclusively focused on the political dynamics of the government funding mess. @ddayen.bsky.social untangles what's actually happening, and finds Republicans trying to slip a major cut to domestic spending past the public:

Some technical errors in previous continuing resolutions now threaten a big cut to nondefense spending.

Sierra Leone’s former president charged with treason for alleged involvement in failed coup attempt
FREETOWN, Sierra Leone (AP) — Former President Ernest Bai Koroma has been charged with treason for his alleged involvement in a failed coup attempt in November, Sierra Leone’s government said Wednesday.Koroma has also been charged with misprision of treason, which is the crime of concealing knowledge of treasonable acts, according to a statement from the ministry of information and civic education. On Nov. 26, dozens of gunmen launched an attack in the West African nation’s capital of Freetown during which they broke into Sierra Leone’s key armory and into a prison where the majority of the more than 2,000 inmates were freed. At least 18 members of the security forces were killed during the clashes. More than 50 suspects, including military officers, have been arrested so far.The charges against Koroma were announced a day after a dozen people were charged with similar offenses in connection with the failed coup. Although he has officially retired from politics, Koroma remains an influential figure within his political party and often hosts prominent politicians in his hometown of Makeni. There have been political tensions in Sierra Leone since President Julius Maada Bio was reelected for a second term in a disputed vote in June. Two months after he was reelected, police said they arrested several people, including senior military officers, for allegedly planning to use protests “to undermine peace.”

99% of boilerplate GOP policy should be the end of any politician's career so you almost need to say something like this to get personal attention and stand out from the crowd of morons, goons and sadists.
"What do you want me to say about slavery?" should be the end of Nikki Haley's political career.

Trump leads Haley in SC by 29 & DeSantis in IA, his do-or-die, by 27. It's only a failure of the press to grasp a new shape of politics in the Trumpocene that's leading them to waste breath on this. In the real world, all energy shld be given to reporting on Trump's now explicit threat to democracy.
