OP would not want the kind of vision that Stevie has. Blindness does not always equate to total darkness. Sometimes it’s light with blurry shapes. Stevie is still blind and he doesn’t need to answer to anyone.

Blindness is a spectrum. You can be legally blind and still be able to see a surprising amount. Some people who are legally blind but can see some are more sensitive to bright lights (hence the shades). If he were unable to see anything he wouldn’t need the shades.
