I'm not sure Evangelicals know what a free gift is... I just heard someone give the typical Gospel spiel, and he talked about how salvation is a "free gift" from Jesus, then proceeded to say what you have to do in order to receive it... uh, that's not a free gift. That's transactional & conditional.

This is a great example of how people, both theist and atheist alike, can twist someone's words and take them out of context for bad faith reasons. We can all do better. I'm speaking to my fellow atheists as well.

If I’m understanding this correctly, X is owned by a white nationalist who pays poor people of color in developing countries to pretend to be working class white Americans to scare other white Americans into being afraid poor people of color from developing countries are going to ruin America?

This thread is all too relatable, especially because I'm also trans masc and am read as both a man and woman depending on the person. So honestly, I've gotten in the habit of not using public bathrooms unless they are family rooms or single occupancy, for the most part.
I guess I'm saying this to say:

No matter how negative a cis person feels about trans people using the bathroom, trust me, we trans people have spent entirely too much of our time anxiously worrying about how they are going to treat us.

No trans person is plotting assaults in the bathroom.

Honestly, my gender goals are to confuse the heck out of people. And based on how people respond to me in public, I think I've achieved that.
Also, why do so many people care so much? We are humans. We are people. Isn't that enough? Why do they want to know our sex at birth so badly? Makes no sense.
clockable but they dont know what time it is

As if I didn't already feel old enough.... *sigh*
I wouldn't be surprised if burning CDs come back around, actually. With all the craziness going on with streaming and the like, I think a lot of people are turning to physical media again. Though most computers don't have disc drives now...
My favorite piece of content today.

I officially left about a year ago, as well. One of the best decisions I could ever make.
If you still use it, it's never too late to leave. I feel so much better. That platform brings out the worst in people. It really does. Especially thanks to who owns it now.
I've been off X for an entire year now. I can't tell you just how much my mental health has improved. I have so much less anxiety from not getting death threats all the time. It's one of the best moves I've ever done. Instead, I've picked up skiing, hiking, cooking, and playing the cuatro.

I'm now imagining having to learn math with Roman numerals... and that would definitely look weird, wouldn't it? Would you still have to find "x" when X is literally a number already?
This was an IQ test.

In case any of you do this, please note it will get rid of inbox categories. Which is honestly ridiculous... but I think I'd rather deal with that than give them access to my inbox for their AI features.
Also, be sure to click "Manage Workspace smart features" under it for Word docs and such.
If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

In this clip Bill Maher gives us a terrific example of bad faith and cheap rhetoric.

The "they are? Where?" interjection is a slimy attempt to shift the burden of proof onto Oswalt to demonstrate a pattern of targeting trans people.

1st Maher is playing dumb (bad faith)
1/
PATTON OSWALT: These people are scared. They're being targeted. We're watching them be targeted right now. We're watching transgender people be targeted in a very aggressive way, so—

BILL MAHER: We are? Where?

OSWALT: Oh my god.

MAHER: Where are they being targeted?

Conservatives have been saying for the past few months that Dems are "inciting violence" for calling MAGA "fascist" and the like. You know what they haven't done? Outright call for people's executions like Conservatives have. Who's really the ones inciting violence?
Hot take but the president openly calling for the murder of his political opposition should be grounds for immediate impeachment and removal for office.

This is an accidentally honest answer. What she's saying in code is:
"The President is a misogynist, petulant bully. You've all seen him be a misogynist, petulant bully. And lots of voters out there are also misogynist or petulant or bullies and that's why they like him."
Q: What did the president mean when he called a reporter "piggy"?

LEAVITT: Look, the president is very frank & honest with everyone in this room. You'll all seen it yourself. You've all experienced it yourselves. And I think it's one of the many reasons the American people reelected this president

Welp, I finally decided to pick back up on my level 25 save in REPO after I've gotten more familiar with the 10 new monsters they added. I *did* complete level 25, but then died the next round when I was almost done. *sigh*
Though I wonder what percentage of players even make it to lvl 20.

For me, it's the normalization of blatant sexism and demeaning of any journalist who dares stand up to him and how he's wielding his power to snuff out descent and threaten free speech. It's not as bad as many things he's done, but it shows all the horrible things he's helped normalized.
I don't know why the "Piggy" thing is bothering me so much. It's one more unforgivable thing in a list of 20,000 unforgivable things, but I've been mad about it for like 12 straight hours.

Quite a lot of the friends I grew up with since childhood are having babies, and I just find it funny because now that I'm in my 30's I just keep saying to myself how thankful I am that I'm not a parent. It's not for me, thanks.

Seeing who Conservatives call "good" really exposes their values, morals, and priorities, doesn't it? Like, I don't know about you, but I wouldn't call a compulsive liar, sex predator, adulterer, and overall bigot "good." So why do they?

Just saw a clip from a recent event the president was at that reminded me I boycott McDonalds just like I do Chick-fil-A and Hobby Lobby. At this point, I also throw Starbucks in there. Oh, yeah. I also never want to buy Dole products, either. Nothing associated with the orange man, thanks.

One major reason why I'm not Conservative? I abhor bullies and cruelty. And from what I've seen over the last 10 years or so, that seems to be the main demographic. Or at least people who see nothing wrong with bullies and cruelty even if they themselves aren't.

Calling LLMs AI has to be one of the greatest marketing “successes” of all time.

People, including ones who run companies, have been hearing the phrase “AI” in pop culture for 60 years.

They hear about AI, assume the product is what the term has always meant, & proceed as though it’s fucking Data.

It's just kind of weird that those of us who grew up with the beginnings of the internet were warned not to put private information online as that could be used against us. Yet there are so many people giving DEEPLY personal information about themselves to LLMs because they treat them like friends.

I.E. Teenagers are old enough to be taken advantage of and violated but not old enough to have body autonomy and self expression. Really helps show what's in the mind of people like her, doesn't it?
Teenagers are old enough to have sex with middle aged men. They are not old enough to be trans.
