Christmas always reminds me of when I was in high school and some friends had a party where we exchanged gifts.
I can't remember who, but someone gave me the Mewtwo Returns DVD. I later found out they meant it as a prank gift, in a "haha, you're in high school and you still like Pokemon!" way.

I had a baby die in my arms of pertussis some fifty years ago. It was a HORRIBLE death. But my fellow nurses said to me, "It's almost stamped out now, they're all getting the shots, we won't be seeing this again."

Reminder that removing planned obsolescence and creating modular, open, standards-based tech that is repairable and made to last is one of the goals of "degrowth".

there has been no meaningful improvement in the devices or their functionality in 10 years in any way that affects what any normal person uses them to do, people only switch when forced updates cause a device which worked fine yesterday to lag so bad you can't type at full speed until you replace it

I haven't seen any version of the Grinch other than the original cartoon (where his deal was he was just kind of an asshole), but whenever they remake it and try to make him more sympathetic, they just make all the Whos look worse than original Grinch, don't they?
