I listened to a biography of FDR recently and the throughline of his first 2 terms is that he was boldly against monied interests in word and deed and the American people fucking loved him to death for it*

*kept reelecting him until he literally died in office

NEW: The first two years of Massachusetts' millionaire tax has raised $3 billion more than expected.

And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.*

Tax the rich. Greg Ryan in @bloomberg.com:

Developing a theory that everyone bought all of their Halloween candy at Costco this year because of inflation, which means that the candy that we’ve been giving out is exactly the same as the candy the kids are bringing back in. Way fewer weird or obscure candy brands this year than years past.

Rooting not just for a Game 7 of the World Series, but another 18 inning game that goes so long on Saturday night that the clocks fall back at 2am before it’s ended and everyone gets tremendously confused about what time it is.

And all MLB parks are asked to only fill their trashcans half full…
George Springer is not in the Blue Jays' starting lineup.

Evidently his side didn't allow him to ramp up his swinging as much as he needed to. Huge development for Game 4 as Dodgers don't have to face the player who ranked 3rd in MLB in OPS.

Administrators at Indiana University baselessly fired the student media director and ordered the student paper to cease its print edition, so it'd sure be a shame if this excellent digital front page were to be widely shared today

Seven years ago today, the Saudi Crown Prince directed the murder of VA resident and journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

As we honor Jamal's memory, we are reminded that we must protect reporters around the world as they uncover the truth, inform the public, and promote accountability.

He’s a pretty good college QB . That’s it. Absolute ceiling in the NFL is Jake Browning (who spent years on practice squad before making NFL roster). Some guys just don’t get better

I know it's frustrating when lawyers point out when something the administration is doing is not legal. But responding with "the law doesn't matter anymore" is really unhelpful and defeatist. Clarifying the law is important because it reminds us not to comply in advance and to resist and take action

There’s a great Planet Money episode about how pay toilets were made illegal in the US and that led to public toilets mostly disappearing or being in bad shape (Not just a Seattle issue!)
Public bathrooms in Seattle are like that beautiful, undiscovered hike you find but don’t tell anyone else about.

Just absolutely embarrassing that this made it to market. So many people need to approve an ad before it gets national airtime. Just wild that they could screw up a detail like this and have nobody either know or care.
This ad about how great Google Gemini is ends by telling us how Ted, the protagonist and a big James Blunt fan, “found something he didn’t even know he was looking for” at a James Blunt concert where James Blunt is playing not “High” by James Blunt but “She’s So High” by Tal Bachman.
