Hi, I'm the ProPublica reporter who's been tracking an unusual stat: U.S. citizens grabbed by immigration agents.

I did it because the government isn’t.

This is what I found.

Why did Israel bomb the 150-year-old Palymra Hotel next to the ruins of Baalbek? Why did it destroy a centuries-old Ottoman-era building nearby?

These historic sites are central to Lebanese tourism. These are attacks on people's livelihoods, and on heritage itself. www.reuters.com/world/middle...

Weeks after Israel's strike, Baalbek's historic Palmyra Hotel, which had withstood Lebanon's 15-year civil war and countless crises, now lies in ruins

1/ Since our story with PBS NewsHour came out last month, comments flooded into Polk County Sheriff’s social feed demanding consequences for Det. Melissa Turnage, who sought criminal charges against Taylor Cadle for lying. We recently learned she was disciplined after we started asking questions.
Police didn’t believe a 12-year-old who said she'd been raped. Then she hit record.

This is the ultimate outcome of almost all social media. You make stuff, grow a following, the network gets paid. It’s not just Elon, it’s Reddit, Instagram, and really most of the internet users now consume.
Elon admits that any post on X with a link is throttled

He advises you to upload content directly to X instead, where he can monetize it

Democrats had a great message on Project 2025. It was so deeply unpopular that Trump had to deny any connection.

Now that Trump has said he plans to hire key figures from Project 2025 for his administration, Democrats need to sound the alarm. It will still be unpopular.

What a strange headline for a story that notes:

1. 2,169 ballots were rejected for no ID.
2. "The voter ID law disproportionately hindered Democrats."
3. "The evidence overwhelmingly shows" that fraud "is essentially nonexistent."
4. The state Supreme Court race was decided by only 625 votes.

For those who aren’t aware, labor rights were earned in this country in literal wars in the streets between unions and private corporate armies working hand-in-hand with US soldiers.

If you didn’t realize it already, the wealth class is seeking to turn back the clock.
Someone should remind the billionaires that before workers had the right to organize and join a union, disgruntled employees occasionally resorted to using bombs and bullets to make themselves heard.
In politics clarity is its own opportunity. The storm of the 2024 election has created great clarity. The richest man in the world, Elon Musk, and 3rd richest man in the world, Jeff Bezos, are currently asking a group of Trump judges to end the right to organize & join a union in the United States.

Really the problem is the government workers are too few: The government is not allowed to pay competitive salaries in many cases, so instead the employees are hired by contractors who can pay and, because the contractor gets their cut, grossly increases the cost over just hiring people directly.
The usual suspects are out there yelling "There are 23 million government workers! Fire most of them!" No awareness that most work for local governments, and most of *them* are schoolteachers. Federal employment hasn't grown since the 1950s

There's a lot to blame of Dems. But people also looked to the media and said, "Well, they're sure acting like he's a normal candidate."
