The options we are presented with (choice architecture) impact our decisions. An example we're faced ever more frequently is the default tipping rates of checkouts.

The factional grifters will hate this, but the Mamdani-Spanberger-Sherrill axis actually suggests the outlines of a broad, emerging Dem coalition organized around both anti-Trump *and* affordability politics, not a party bitterly divided against itself.
These big wins will embolden Dems to take on Trump's lawbreaking and show there's a price for GOP enabling of him. Folks hate to hear this, but normal patterns are asserting themselves: Liberalism isn't dead, Rs are likely to lose in 2026, and Trump is really unpopular, not a magical exception.

Completely agree on this
AOC: I think there's two things that are happening at once: One, there absolutely is an unprecedented abuse of power, destruction of norms, erosion of our government and our democracy in order to prop up an authoritarian style of governance

However, they are weaker than they look…

Succinctly states where we are and what's happening. These three things, in addition to doing much else, are the sheet anchors of American wealth and power.
Three things made the US a rich and powerful nation: the rule of law, its science & innovation system, and openness to foreign talent. Remarkable how Trump has taken a sledgehammer to all three. No enemy of this country could do more.

This is absolutely terrible news.

With the shifting regulatory climate (i.e., antivax ratfuckery), Moderna has withdrawn their application for their eagerly anticipated COVID-flu combo vaccine. This vaccine offered better protection than getting each shot separately.

A shocking statistic presented by Margaret Leinen of @scrippsocean.bsky.social, was that 8 of the major oceanographic institutions are cutting grad admissions by 50% in 2025.

That's a HUGE long-term loss for the students planning on grad school, & the industries that plan to hire in coming years.

Reminder: You can just…do stuff.

You don’t have to wait for your boss to tell you to. You don’t have to wait to be told you’re good enough.

As long as you’re not hurting anybody, and especially if doing it would help somebody… you can just do it.
