One of the several insidious things about COVID is that it can do considerable “under the hood” damage that might not be evident for years. I say this not to frighten and paralyze you, but to remind or encourage you to wear a mask and try to have as few infections as possible.
If they established protocols (with biomarkers) for at least these 3 factors: immunity depletion, vascular damage, and mitochondrial dysfunction, they would shudder in terror for the amount of people suffering Long Covid.

Happy hashtag#OceanExplorationDay! The @oceandiscleague.bsky.social estimates that we have only explored 0.001% of the deep ocean. For the world's largest habitat on Earth, we must continue exploring to ensure the protection of this biosphere.

"The bill would provide roughly flat funding for NOAA at $6.17 billion. It also moves most weather research programs in the Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research to the National Weather Service, as proposed in the president’s budget request."

Last month in @mbarinews.bsky.social spotted a seven-arm octopus (Haliphron atlanticus) at ~700 m depth. Only the 4th sighting in nearly 40 years. Filmed in stunning 4K, the octopus was clutching a crimson helmet jelly! www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_lt...

FWIW there was lots of talk about 3 weeks back about norovirus in the metro area but diarrhea was the number one complaint of someone I know who tested positive for Covid. If you still needed a good reason to mask.

Whoever you are, please mask (ideally N95 or equivalent) right now (and keep masking).

Hospitals across the country are packed with sick patients. More will get sick. Help stop the spread of influenza A, covid and RSV by masking. Masking also reduces your risk too.

The thing about measles is that it’s the only known virus that triggers immune amnesia - it causes your immune system to forget everything it has previously learned. Meaning you essentially reset to zero and are now at risk of basically everything.

It can take 2-3 years to get immunities back.
