I would like to live in an America where if you have extra money, you can explore building restorative spaces for your community, instead of desperately getting funds to people for food, rent and abortions.
The secret: Put double-sided tape on the corners of new upholstered furniture for a month, plus a rope-covered scratching pole near the places cats nap the most so they can scratch when they wake.

That’s it. I’ve had zero scratched furniture for YEARS
Cats can wreak havoc on furniture and wound people. But declawing is extremely painful and, in many places, illegal. Here’s why you should not be declawing your cat.
Ask a Vet: Is it wrong to declaw my cat?

What’s not normal is all three of my safeguards failed in part because working from home on a sort of holiday.

Sorry to everyone who stared at a blank zoom

I never liked (significant) age gap romance regardless of genders.

Now with billionaires and church pastors creeping on kids, age gap romance feels a lot like the oppressed trying to rationalize their oppression and make it ok.

Idc if your leads are 25/45, still creepy af

The widespread sexual abuse committed by Epstein and his cronies is unfathomable. Alongside that, there is another story about widespread sexual abuse that isn’t getting much attention at all.

ICE agents are raping immigrant women. It’s happening now. 1/

I’ve got sweaters in my closet older than DHS
For those of you who grew up after 9/11, we got along just fine without a Department of Homeland Security for 212 years.

The DHS was formed to try to prevent future terror attacks — now, it is orchestrating them.

in which I go to look up the credentials of an older woman I met recently and discover she's a solid year younger than me

I am now the age where I forget what age I am, much less what age I look. It's hard to spot peers when you are wafting about in a haze of been-here-awhile-but-not-elderly-yet

Well holy fucking shit. Ring cancelled their partnership with Flock. Keep pressure on them to stop volunteering their feeds to state, local, and federal agencies, though, because that part's still going.

An estimated one in 36 people in the US are on the spectrum and may have noise sensitivity that makes it hard for thrm yo function when a home fire alarm goes off.

The loud noise literally makes it harder to save oneself from the fire.

Can we get some life-saving legislation?

Ok if I were the sort of person who would drive 135 miles to hang out somewhere pretty for the weekend, I would dream of buying this historic house and barns

But I never leave Rhode Island so…

As the director of a foundation myself, I heartily agree with this message. Foundations shouldn't exist for more than 5 years each (enough time to figure out what to do with lump sums of money)

That includes RI Foundation.

I Manage $100 Million at a Foundation. Philanthropy Shouldn’t Exist.
Op-ed: Philanthropy is a $1.5 trillion tax shelter. The only way to shift power is to dismantle institutional giving altogether.

Ugly secrets of home fire alarms according to my electrican: You’re supposed to inspect them weekly (!) including pushing the button for sound 😱Even though they’re‘rated’ for 10 years, even the best have cheap circuits that break routinely from dust and humidity.

Rhode Island is also on track to lose a congressional seat. Our new housing starts are the lowest in the nation and too many homes are only vacation homes.

This also impacts our tax base, creative economy, ability to attract employers and keep new college grads from fleeing
NEW: The next US Census likely won’t be good for New York. The state is projected to lose two congressional seats, and with them, two electoral votes for president.

One reason why blue states are losing ground: The red states build far more housing than they do.
New York Could Lose Seats in Congress Because It Won’t Build Housing
As housing construction booms in red states, blue states are falling behind. That will likely boost Republicans in federal politics.
