On the other hand, 6-year old Freddie believes in ensconcing himself in direct eye view of humans who might be tempted to play. Hey, wanna play? Wanna play?

How do you handle a chill, rainy Saturday?

13-year old Sunny believes in only getting out of her heated bed for quick snacks because what’s the point of getting up without warm sun to bask in?

Sign over the exit of a small pizza-by-the-slice place in Boston. Looked up and saw it this weekend and thought, this is wonderful. We should all do this above our doors so everyone gets a little blessing* as they depart.

*not in an organized religioun way though

Nothing like a wildly misogynistic advertisement sponsoring a news story about a wildly misogynistic man

We can’t get away from it

Famed artist Rachel Ruysch (1664-1850) worked her brains out as her family’s top breadwinner while bearing TEN CHILDREN. The MFA plaque calls this, “a contemplative pose” with her husband and youngest age 4.

Contemplative? Pretty sure that’s exhaustion.

The American temperance movement was our ‘first wave’ of feminism not because women are prissy but because men were literally drinking their wages and there wasn’t money left to run the household and feed the family. Plus domestic violence.

Sotheran’s rare bookshop newsletter had a delicious interview with famed SF author JG Ballard’s daughter Fay today. There’s no way to link to it (argh) but it’s heartwarming to know apparently he was the best father ever.

In these days of tales of toxic men, it’s a relief to hear of good ones

I have been gifted a retrospective book featuring 325 paintings and illustrations by Sara Midda. Her artwork is full of joyful whimsy about things I adore like gardens. But what really knocked my socks off were these two photos of her offices.

Don’t you just want to ensconce yourself in them?

Flipping your Little Free Library for the duration: my food pantry expert friends tell me the best stuff is
- protein (tuna, peanut butter, beans)
- shelf-stable prepared foods
- trail mix

Anyone got tips on how freezing weather will impact what food we can leave outside??

According to Stonepeak, the private equity firm who own Omni Air International, they are “Opportunistically targeting the most attractive sub-sectors”

Here’s their executive team who think profits from flying shackled people for ICE are “attractive”

Wow, ok. Former PVD city councilor Helen Anthony who had declined to endorse anyone in the hotly contested battle to replace her, has now come out in favor of Jill Davidson

Plus Jill nabbed Sam Zurier’s endorsement as well

In a shocking (not) twist, RI democrats ranked ‘gun safety’ as their lowest concern when the survey question was worded to say the 2nd amendment rocks and we already have strong gun safety measures on the books.

I hope gun control activists rake the party over the coals for this misleading BS

I grew up in a rural town where you’d walk up to a mile between houses and we learned tough lessons about good manners by smiling thanks at the elderly couple who were furthest away and only gave apples for Halloween

I’m the microwave popcorn packet lady now & kids seem to like the break from candy

A friend and I were just chatting about how eveningwear promos made us think that glittering parties at elegant bars were a regular part of adult life.

Even as adults, when no one we knew ever dressed like this going out, we thought it was mainstream…just not here?

Fun fact, autism isn’t for humans only. How do I know? Meet Freddie my neurodivergent cat. He was officially diagnosed by a specialist vet.

He hates being touched by human hands, it feels icky! So we pet him lightly with a whisk broom instead

Can you tell which I grew in my own garden vs store bought?

(Readons why before pesticides most apples were grown to press for cider, not to eat)

Hey Rhode Island: Want to find an easy $250,000 you can put immediately toward restoring bus routes?

Stop printing and mailing quarterly payroll tax report reminders to the 30,000 employers who use payroll services so it’s already taken care of for them automatically

lol you know you’re in the 21st century when the property lines for an uninhabitable beachfront hut include land already firmly underwater

$1.2 million, no town water (digging a well next to the ocean is such brackish sorrow), no town sewer
